Every time I use Humble Bundle, I remember that there is a custom allocation option when purchasing bundles. With the sliders, you can have a ton of control concerning where your money goes. I always get anxious trying to figure out how to best allocate the funds. I have a Humble Partner that I adore and want to support, but I don't want to take money away from devs or forget the charity itself. When you look at the numbers, everyone gets a pittance.

Should we rely on the averages of thousands of purchases or should we favor one group in particular so that someone at least gets something meaningful?

What do you do? What do you see as socially acceptable when purchasing from Humble Bundle? Would I be a jerk for favoring the person I personally know? What about wanting to support devs more for their hard work?

Here is a Giveaway because you stuck through this. Today is my birthday, so I decided to splurge and buy a bundle with two games from my wishlist :D

YOU are wonderful and have value. Do not forget that.

How do you choose where your money goes on Humble bundles?

View Results
You can set a custom allocation? (I use the default allocation),
I try to keep things equal across the groups.
I give Humble Bundle most of my energy. They make it all possible.
I tend to favor the Charities. It is all about the charity, right?
The Devs should be seeing some love for their hard work, so their slider gets some extra love.
I know a Humble Partner and I tend to support their content as best I can when it comes to Humble Bundles!
Who does a "Humble Tip"? Isn't this all a tax write-off for them anyway?
It depends on the bundle or I just do whatever I feel like at the time.
I do a combination of two or more of these ideas. I just can't decide on favoring only one.

I stopped giving Humble a tip after the first cases of "You give our keys away on SG? Begone, reseller!" popped up here. Most of the time I give all the money to charity, sometimes the devs get a small share if I like them a lot.

I always lean more toward the charity, but I always give a portion to HB and the devs.

Happy Birthday. :D

I always leave the sliders as they are by default.

i try to give half of what i'm paying to the charity of choice (as of late ACLU, previously was Southern Poverty Law Center) and divide the rest between devs and humble. I tend to buy games & bundles from them over anywhere else for this reason tbh; the charity aspect is what encourages me to spend the money.

edit: oh, and happy birthday!

I usually give each developer same amount (sometimes I give more to devs of games I really enjoyed or games I have wishlisted), twice/thrice as much to each charity and what's left (basically few cents) goes to Humble.

let me start by saying the sliders make it take a LOT longer to set the amounts i want. i used to just type them in and everything was fine, but now it tries to adjust every other slider when i change one of them so then i have to keep changing the one that's farthest from what i want back to what i want and then go change others and repeat repeat repeat until they’re finally all where i want.

i’ve always given most of it to charity, and set games i already have to zero (habit from when they provided combined keys and those games would just be lost anyway). i give each dev 25 or 50 cents (depending on how many) and everything else to charity. i used to also give humble tip the same as a dev, but i’ve been setting that to zero lately since humble doesn’t appear to be focused on the helpful stuff they used to be.

I almost always give my funds to the charity, sometimes I 'slide' some money to the devs (especially if they are little, indie devs). I have no regrets with not giving money to Humble Bundle since IGN has bought it, however I really appreciate HBs job (but I think my monthly subscription is better way to appreciate them)

It is a little easier said than done for those of us with anxiety disorders when it comes to "backbone", but I do understand the sentiment. It is hard for me because I want to be accepted by everyone even though I should know that isn't possible.

I think you are really cool for supporting Lyme Disease research! The "one disease at a time" mentality is kinda why I made this thread. "Do you spread the support thin for equality's sake or do you focus on one at a time" was kind of my thought process.

This didn't come off as pushy or anything. Thank you for your thoughts and for the birthday wishes!

I tend to forget about the allocations, so it's just default.

But if I do edit the values, I go for more money for the charities and I also favor the developers whose games I'm actually interested in and whose games are the best ones.

So overall, the cut for these increases comes from the devs that I don't care for as much and also Humble.

I give mostly to a charity I strongly support and give some to the devs and a bit to humble. Usually 60-70% charity and then the rest going to devs and humble but will alter it to 60% to devs if they are indie and I like them. For example Klei will always get the majority of the profits because those guys are still updating their older games even though they don't make a lot of profit from them. They are super active and actually listen to players about new features.

Part of it depends, for me, on the developers and the charities involved. I tend to give less to big, AAA devs, but support indie studios as much as I feel comfortable depending on how much I like the charity involved. Many of the charities are the big, inefficient corporate charities that I'm not a fan of, and I disagree with a few for more fundamental differences in vision and goal, but in general I consider developers first, charity second, and try to leave at least 10% for Humble because they do keep things going, but if I really like a charity or developer I might shirk them a little bit.
