I just did and it tried to import data for EVERY single game that i owned. The computer started lagging and luckily i was able to disconnect my Steam account and restart to abort this.

You mean GOG Galaxy 2.0, specifically?

Have fun when you got 9000 games, and yes it crashes a lot. GOG knows about it as it will hog your memory but can't fix it.
It's with the latest client, old client it worked okay.

But seriously that's what the function is there for, games, not friends, not sure what else you expected.

Uhh, what are you talking about? I've connected my Steam to GOG Galaxy and no issues with it.

No, you can't play them on GOG it's just a library consolidation, but it is nice to have your entire game library in one place.

Sure, i can see the use for it. But, it lags my music and the whole computer and it would take a long time to import i figured. Not for me.

Okay, then it's not for you and I can appreciate that.

But, this thread makes it sound like the problem is with GOG itself, and it's not. The problem is your machine, or your internet connection.

I have a 6 year old macbook running GOG Galaxy connected to an extensive Steam library, Blizzard, Epic, and a few others. Takes a few minutes to sync up Steam. I think it's going to be fine for most people, when a relatively old laptop can run it. ;)

Ok, changed some things in the thread. Hope it is better now.

You really should rephrase the title of your thread. This has nothing to do with connecting Steam and GOG. And there are no dangers, just an old PC struggling.

Or in an ideal scenario: Close this thread.

I think if you read one of the first replies you will find it may be a problem indeed. And did you not figure maybe more people here have old PCs?

Yeah well, dude come on and what pc you have? One from 2000?

You state not for you (which is all fair) but make a subject to say for anyone not to use it.

I run a computer which is basically from 2013 but some parts are a lot newer. Go to my Steam profile for my specs. And yeah, i changed the description of the thread to something more appropriate.

Just because you don't have issues, it doesn't mean others will not have too. Being dismissive yadda yadda. What a stupid thing to say.

Steam integration of GoG Galaxy is pure trash.

Maybe get off your high horse? I was responding to how the thread was originally written and if you actually read the other replies above, you would see that. You just read my first reply and rage typed a post. I am not the stupid one here.

OP changed it from telling everyone to keep away from GOG, to hey there may be an issue. Those are two drastically different things. There was no need for you to be so damn rude.

Have a nice day!

The only reason not to connect is that it disconnects steam library from time to time.

Better question is what are the specs of your computer that has it lagging so badly? What background programs do you have open and how many? Some people like having google chrome and 15 tabs open in the background while watching a Twitch stream and switching back and forth playing Youtube videos. It's just basic resource management sometimes. For me personally I've never had that specific incident like that happen before while using GOG Galaxy.

After the cyberpunk launch I wouldn't trust gog / galaxy launcher anymore than epic etc. Why give them all your game launchers ? They add fuck all of value really.

My experience with the GOG Galaxy/Steam integration was also very spotty (I got tons of the infamous "Offline/Retry" error). Last thing I did that seemed to almost solve it was the procedure described here, which seemed to help (note how it instructs you to delete the plugin in TWO different places in your computer). Yes, it took a while to have my ~2000 game Steam library to sync, but it seemed to work fine after that.

Maybe. YMMV.

This. I really liked the idea of having GOG Galaxy as my standard gaming platform, but the way the 'integration' is handled is just... I'll be polite here: "Not very good". I thought that it might have been a bug that Galaxy imports the games again and again while hogging resources like there's no tomorrow, but I'm lead to believe that's actually the way that things are intended. Another great idea brought down by a lackluster implementation.

i can also kinda vouch for playnite. i've had in installed for probably a year now and though i literally never use it, i toyed around with it after installing and it synced everything up quickly without any trouble.

Stopped trying when gog kept disconnecting my accounts every so often to even bother.

I try Playnite now. I'll started to sync and its now 8 hour importing my libraries. 6600/10700 metadata. Galaxy is faster.

GOG Galaxy is a nice idea in principle - one launcher to rule them all and your whole game collection in one place. But the Steam extension particularly causes a lot of problems as is obvious looking at the GOG forums. I tried to get it to work over months until I gave up.

Most users reporting problems have large Steam libraries with thousands of games which the GOG integration seems unable to handle.
I'm using https://gg.deals/collection/ to keep tabs on my game licenses for the time being.
