CREDITS

This thread was first created by Perm, here. He announced in the topic that he wouldn't be updating it anymore and asked if someone would take over and update it for him. That's why I decided to ask him if I could take care of the thread and his answer was yes, so for now on I'll be making the updates to the Registry in this new topic, until he decides to open up his thread again (if he decides that I'll simply close this and point back to that one). If you want to thank anyone you should thank him, that was the person who first created the thread.

is there some script that along with "Enter" button on main page puts a snippet of the GA description on it's side? It would be great, so we wouldn't need to actualy enter just to see "thanks or BL" and "No need to thanks" just in front, and if there is usefull text we know and enter the giveaway thread! Just didn't find any scripts doing something like that on my search, did I miss someone?

Question -- what is the usefulness of this:

"Looks at who entered without commenting and gives you a list"

Almost every comment seems to be automated, so why do we want to know if people are not commenting?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What's the usefulness of a script that highlights games you own from a chart if you never visit the threads that have those charts? What's the usefulness of having links to SGTools in the profile if you never use SGTools? What's the usefulness of a script that adds an icon to users who are in your whitelist/blacklist?

And the list could go on. Just because it's not useful for you doesn't immediately mean it isn't useful for everyone else in the world. They may have a reason to use it, or they may just be curious.

By the way, not every comment is automated, I doubt even 5% of the comments are automated. People with autojoin scripts usually just enter and that's it. And that's just for public giveaways, I doubt anyone with autojoin scripts join group/whitelist giveaways so every comment there is pretty much written by someone.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agree about group/whitelist giveaways, absolutely. But on public giveaways, there are a ton of automated comments. It's quite a bit higher than 5%.

I was just curious, by the way -- you're pretty defensive! LOL

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm really not, I just don't tend to use any emoticons when commenting, so it comes out as serious/defensive and sometimes even rude, that kind of stuff.

I was just trying to explain you that different folk find different stuff useful ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But anyway, neither of us is right, we don't really have a way to tell when it's someone's script commenting or when it's just the person itself. Unless you find some case in which that same person commented the same thing in like 30 giveaways in a second. It's way more common as far as I know to find that happening with entries.

Most people don't like being spammed with comments, though. Most of the people I know only want a thanks from the winner.

What software did you use to create gif like that?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

When I made that gif I still had Windows, so I used ShareX. Really, really, really good and handy tool, I can't emphasize it enough. I link the Steam store page but as far as I know it's also free to download without Steam DRM from their website. It's pretty great as well, a lot of options and functionality, from recording the screen, to making gifs, to screenshoting webpages, automatic upload to different hosting services to even being able to automate stuff.

Right now I'm using Debian and so far I haven't found anything even remotely as polished as this. Most of the actual GUIs are just for Ubuntu and not even updated anymore, and the manual way of doing it requires like piping 3 different commands with a lot of variables you have to type yourself while being very restrictive as well. So if you are using some Linux distro you are probably out of luck, you may be able to run it through Wine though, I still haven't tried.

Yep, it's very unfortunate. As far as I know it's because the program relies heavily on specific methods of the Windows API, so porting wouldn't be as easy as just changing a few lines of code. I wish there was at least an alternative for Linux, but doesn't seem like too many Linux devs are concerned about having that feature. I guess I could still record the desktop as a video and then turn it into a gif, but it's annoying nevertheless.

I use my mother's laptop when I play games, which lately is almost never. My own HP laptop is about 7 years old at this point, and I mainly do programming/coding stuff with it since it has a hard time doing anything else, and for that Linux is simply superior. I can easily connect to my Raspberry Pi over SSH and send/receive files between them using scp (command for secure copy). I also use Termux for Android which is awesome as well, to connect from my phone (or even to it!) to my laptop or RasPi so I can compile and run any script or program, and even develop and test stuff on the go without having to go through the hassle of finding apps which allow me to compile and run specific languages on Android and that probably won't support all libraries anyway.

It helps that most of the stuff I use/do for development, mainly Atom since IDEs are just heavy-weight for my computer to handle properly and compiling from the console/running different commands/installing new packages is just easier and not as restrictive as in Windows. And don't even get me started on Windows' shortcuts, like using Ctrl+G to save stuff instead of Ctrl+S. Or selecting everything in a document or folder with Ctrl+E instead of Ctrl+A. And a looooong, long list of bullshit design choices by Microsoft, like forcing updates on Windows 10, no matter if you are working on something or not at the time (yes I know I can change the preferred time for updates to install, but my sleep cycle changes pretty much every day, I may be sleeping during the day and stay up during this week and next the other way around, I can't just go in and change it everytime).

So I basically switched because I find developing and running stuff more easy on Linux, it also allows a lot of customization which is cool, and if you know enough you can go and create your own distro, or modify the one you use to your liking. At first I was a bit scared of switching to Debian since I've only used Backtrack before for wireless stuff and Ubuntu which is pretty much as user-friendly and easy as Windows, but if I have a problem there is almost always a post in StackOverflow that says how to solve it, and once you get to know the console and console commands it's pretty great.

I've never used Linux, so I don't know much about it. I just heard it from my friend who uses Linux, and he said everything is not as simple as in Windows.

For Android development, I use Android Studio which is supported by Google themselves, but yeah it is very heavy program and takes so much loading time to get started and I bet it is too much for 7 years old laptop.
All windows I've tried (Windows 98, XP, 7,8 ,10) use Ctrl+S to save and Ctrl+A to select all. I don't know which Windows you referred to with Ctrl+G and Ctrl+E.

Ok, I'll stop this. I don't want to make this into an argument of Windows vs Linux.
I just want to know more about Linux and curious why you switched to Linux.

I'm not taking it as an Windows vs Linux debate, I'm a newbie in Linux so I'm not really the best person to ask what's better/worse, there is just stuff I like more and that feel less restrictive to me in Debian ^^

I don't know which Windows you referred to with Ctrl+G and Ctrl+E.

From Windows 7 to Win10. For example on Linux you can open a folder using the file manager that came with the distro/you installed later and just Ctrl+A for every file and folder within that folder to be selected. As far as I remember that didn't work on Windows, you needed Ctrl+E instead. And the same thing applied on everything from Windows/Microsoft like their Wordpad/Notepad/Word, which use Ctrl+G to save instead of Ctrl+S and Ctrl+E to select all.

It's not like I'm a Linux fanboy and I just want Linux shortcuts to be the default in Windows, is simply that pretty much everything not made by Microsoft uses those same shortcuts, only Microsoft products don't, which I find extremely irritating since I use shortcuts on the first place to not move my hands away from the keyboard/do stuff quicker, but the same thing always happens: I finish writing something, and I use Ctrl+S to save, just for the program to open another window not related at all to saving, and then I look at it like an idiot and confused for about a second and then I realize I have to use Ctrl+G instead, so I close that window that popped up and then finally press Ctrl+G.

As for Android Studio, I was eventually planning on getting to develop stuff for Android, I know the basics of Java so I would just have to learn about Android Studio, their API and that kind of stuff. What is it exactly? An IDE? Or more like the Java Development Kit which basically adds the compiler and JVM and just basic stuff needed to run java files?

If it's more than an IDE and it's similar to Unity in that it emulates an Android environment you can interact with then I doubt very much I'll even be able to run it, it would probably be painfully laggy. If it's just an IDE I guess I could still run it, it would take ages to open up, but it would load up eventually ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Unfortunately it's not, check the screenshot I attach. It's in Spanish, but basically "Guardar..." means save in English. And when taking the screenshot and opening Paint to show just that part and not the whole screen I realized it uses those same shortcuts as well. I also realized that other annoying shortcut I forgot about, that I could just remember it was annoying, opening stuff with Ctrl+A, which means everytime I forget and do Ctrl+A to select everything the open window pop ups prompting me to choose what file I want to open, sigh... At least the shortcut to create a new file is the same, Ctrl+N.

well - don't know what to tell you there - but on mine it is CTRL-N - CTLR-O & CTRL-S for the top three - these being new, open, and save, respectively - so I think that perhaps it is set that way on spanish version - as on english version for me it is as stated :-P - tell me how to put a photo in this silly thing and I could show you - but hey hum I do not know

Maybe you are using Win10 and they changed that. The screenshot is taken from Win8, and my HP laptop had Win7 before, so that may be the case. It may also be a regional thing as you say, even though I find it pretty stupid (and annoying) if that's the case to change the shortcuts depending on your language. I mean, what if you want to teach an English friend some shortcut and turns out that since his Windows is in a different language he has completely different shortcuts? Or what about people that speak more than one language and switch between multiple OS with different languages? Should they learn different shortcuts for every OS they use with a different language at home/work?

nope - just checked windows 7, 8 and 10 - laptop, netop, gaming rig still on win 7 - I even remember it being that way on windows 3.1 - so more likely to be language/region related :)

Well, at least now I get why they did it, but it still doesn't change the fact, at least for me, that doing that can cause more inconvenience and irritation than anything, and I still dislike it, especially when I just keep the Spanish version installed for my family, if I could I would just switch to the English version but I can't and I'm stuck with weird shortcuts :/

It is an IDE with auto compile features. It also has emulator which we can select OS version, RAM, dimension, etc..
I use 2 GB RAM to run the emulator, and after emulator runs, I can do live debugging without physical Android attached.
But emulator is not mandatory, you can just do live debugging with your phone via USB. It'll be faster than emulator.

As Loupou22 said, it is because of Spanish version.

As Loupou22 said, it is because of Spanish version.

Yep, figured as much, it's still annoying because as I say, literally any other software in this planed keeps it constant, the same way no matter what language you may be using. So I'm happily doing stuff on Linux, or developing some script on Atom and/or the Tampermonkey script page and it's always the same default commands, Ctrl+S to save, Ctrl+A to select all, that kind of stuff. Then I go to school, or use my mother's laptop and use some Microsoft proprietary software, and since I live in Spain and the computers normally are in Spanish and I'm stuck with those awkward keyboard shortcuts just because Microsoft decided it was a good idea to change them depending on your language, so the information is not only more disperse, but it's harder to help an user that may be wondering why X shortcut isn't working like it does in any other software. And then they'll probably search how to replace those shortcuts for the default English ones, which I'm guessing it's not as easy. This is even more irritating when I go to Romania, in which none of my shortcuts work because they have different shortcuts as well. Sigh...

It is an IDE with auto compile features. It also has emulator which we can select OS version, RAM, dimension, etc..

Hmmm... That's cool. Is there any way to just use a text editor and compile it later from the console or similar? Basically just avoid using the IDE. I guess I could do what you suggest for the phone, I have an Android 4 phone lying around so it shouldn't be a problem, and if I really want some more recent API method my phone runs Android 5 so I could use that as well. I guess I'll have to make some research and see what are the differences and what functionality isn't available in older versions.

I remembered you compiled this useful list but couldn't remember the title and had a hard time looking for it. I looked through your own script threads for the link, but you hadn't linked to it there either. Finally found it by installing Mullins SGLinksies script.

Suggestion: Add the word "script" somewhere in the title so the thread will show up in searches for that term. Also, if you find the time, add a link to this page in your own script threads for added visibility. It's a shame to let this useful resource get buried and lost.

Done the "script" bit, will probably do the latest later. Thanks ^^

And I just added the message about the SG Add-Ons Registry to my latest scripts. The first two ones simply don't have the same syntax as the new userscript threads so I would need to change that first, and they aren't even that popular so it shouldn't really matter. It's under the Useful links, images and gifs section of my new threads.

I didn't do this before simply because I'm a bit wary of people thinking I want to promote myself or similar, which is why whenever I update the main post if one of my new scripts should be added I add it at the bottom of the New chart so I can bring more awareness to the rest of new scripts by other users. For the same reason I don't bump my threads when I add them to the Registry while I bump others'. In general I just dislike bumping my own stuff, even if it's actually something potentially helpful to a lot of people and not really "mine" like this thread is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I get where you are coming from but I don't think you should worry too much about it. Anyone with half a brain can see that this repository is a treasure trove :)

Not super important but just to let you know:

  • Mullins is now Mully
  • Timmaeh is now TheTimmaeh

Otherwise I suppose a bump and I suppose seeing the thread again let me look at some of these again :)

Thanks, I just updated it. I try to keep it as updated as possible on my own, but this, as many other threads is (and should be) a community effort since I just can't keep track of each user on from the almost million there are on this site, all creating/modifying their threads and changing their usernames.

No problem, just something I noticed, I don't think you're expected to know when others change their name and whatnot lol

Edit: If you really want I think theoretically you can use SteamIDs to keep track but idk if that's worth it or if some of the authors may not like that (though I don't see why not since you can find a link on their profile anyways)

You are right, I didn't even think of that. I'll get to it once I have some free time, hopefully soon, since it's a looooooong list :/

Also, just so you know at the end of the Author/Last Update cell for the SG++ addon you have a deadlink :)

I think that's everyone in the order they're on the thread (without repeating the same user)

Thanks, this saved me so much time. I just updated the chart with the links you provided me and I went ahead and got rid of all the titles in the links to the discussions, since those pretty much change all the time, and SG redirects you to the correct link as long as you have the discussion/ABCDE/ part right, so it should at least save up some characters which my laptop will probably thank when trying to edit it all that sheer amount of text :D

And I got rid of that deadlink at the end of the Author cell for SG++. Perm basically made the chart, so most of what we have right now is pretty much legacy, I'm updating it and making some changes to the format, like the different category charts and so, but most of the work is from Perm as I say. I guess he wanted to add someone else there and then simply forgot? Or he just kept it in case he had to add someone else later on? I honestly have no idea.

No problem, it didn't take too long using the browser extensions I have anyhow; and it was a good bit of distraction for me.

If the deadlink makes it easier for you in someway then by all means keep it there. I just noticed it so I thought I'd let you know if you hadn't seen it. Either way keep up the good work :)
