Expect real problems coming from ad servers. A very well liked way to infect others computers with malware is done through ads. Malicious partys run seemingly innocent ads which the ad companies pass and then exchange the content to malicious content mid-campaign (lots of flash exploits, a few java / adobe reader ones strayn in). A very good reason to worry about and do countermeasures. Look for addons for browsers including: noscript, ghostery possibly plain adblockers like uBlock
But do watch out for social media spam and or classical email crap.

Just a heads up that every giveaway page on this site I load up, jut started today, is being reported by Avast Antivirus in Chrome:
Infected URL
URL: http://pool.admedo.com/sync?ssp=bidswitch&bidswitch_ssp_id=switchconcepts
Infection: URL:Mal
Process: C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe
Am assuming it must be the current 'KYN' adverts as it doesn't happen on Discussion pages.
It doesn't happen in Firefox either, perhaps the Avast web shield doesn't protect that one, not sure.
