They are virtual items and there are collectors for these things, it's the same with TF2 hats, Dota items, CS:GO skins, WOW items, <insert random game with tradeable virtual items here>, ...

For example Fortix: http://store.steampowered.com/app/45400/
All the way down on the right where "singleplayer" and "steam achievements" is listed you can see it also has "steam trading cards".

I think he was asking which games (besides Beat Hazard) have in-game items for collecting cards. AFAIK only BH has that.

Level 5 and foil you mean or whatnot cause foil badge is only level one.

Every game has average 7 cards. Badge level cap is 5, foil is 1. If you play the game half of the cards will be dropped, but you have to find rest of them via market or friends. So, if you buy 500 cards of the same game, that's pointless.

Yeah, i realized that's not so pointless but hey!

1) you can get showcases for your profile
2) You increase your chance to get random Booster Packs drops (1 Booster Pack contain 3 cards)
That's pretty much it, unless you count "showing off your level to your friends" as an additional point.

Unless you've missed a lot of sales and are really desperate to get a game at a discount, without having to wait for the next sale (or having to go through the trouble of finding someone who trades it cheap) I'd say the coupons are a neglectable bonus.
Even though you could get lucky with some rare 90% off coupons.
But generally yeah, you are right, you get 1 random coupon for crafting 1 badge (during Summer Sale you got Summer Sale cards).

I want them badly because after I get them, then I can sell them for a quick buck ;)

Its a trend made by valve 2 push their sales... guess what: Worked out perfectly ..... Hail to the GABEN !!
Comment has been collapsed.
it´s a win-win-win for all sites. valve makes monay, the sellers make Money, government makes Money, seller has equal fun with collecting/crafting/trading than with a game that would cost the same Price as the Cards. whats the matter with all the peoples who hat the Cards?

Nothing to scoff at.. Im sure mine are on the low end of the scale..
current wallet: $8.18
Market Transactions
Purchase total:$90.22
Sales total:$138.94
Net gain:$48.72
(and I have a level 20 profile)
I can't tell you what I bought as I was alot.. as I mostly buy with keys

I used to collect trading cards when I was a kid. Everything from sports cards to Powerpuff Girls to Duel Masters to cards from Disney movies. EVERYTHING. Steam kinda feeds into that urge that I used to have when I was a younger collector, plus they're digital so it ties into the rest of my digital life stuff. Also, trading cards with people in person fucking suuuuuuucked
Not to mention if there's ever a sale on a game that I want, I can just put some cards up on the market & get more money back than what I payed for the cards. & I truly believe they'll become more valuable overall once they've been out for a while/games start getting different series' of cards & all the older ones get crafted into badges

I think the main reason is to level up their steam accounts (via crafting game badges). For every 10 levels, starting from level 1 you are awarded with a profile "showcase", such as achievement showcase and game showcase. Things like item showcase are beneficial for traders (I'm referring to Team Fortress 2 and Dota2 trading in general), and the other showcases serve as decorations or to boast your wealth or accomplishments etc. etc.
Other than that, the cards does kind of give you a sense of satisfaction when you have a little badge for each game you own or the games you really enjoy playing (those who used to collect or are still collecting trading cards will know this)
Not to mention, as Fidel above me has stated, you can sell them in urgent times to get quick steam wallet funds to purchase games, though cards don't fetch that much (with the exception of foils of course)
That's just my opinion
