why? LEGOS are meant to be played with, also is 1000$ for 9k pieces a good ratio?

If it's real this is likely going to have a limited amount available. LEGO collectors and Star Wars collectors go nuts for this stuff. From what I've seen it's very safe to say what Lugum is saying is right on the money.

well thats a little sad, i guess legos are like Pokemon Cards then... also the main thing that i was saying is when he says "Lego and star wars is a good investment" its not a piece of silver its a toy

It is, here we even got unofficial lego stores that also sell old lego stuff, there is a market for it.
Old action figures, Barbies, NES cartridges everything still wrapped in foil and not used tends to be worth much more after x years, although i think most stuff from after 2000 won't be ever worth much anymore as stuff from the 70-90's.
And in the end it's always a gamble, like this actor who got bankrupt investing in beanie babies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgDsyj5eLmo

Depending on inflation. You need to sell what you bought for 2x your cost in 10-20 years just to break even.
If its extremely rare, that can be easy. If its not rare, youre better off not buying it in the first place.
Just like collectible cards of whatever genre, they have to be rare and relevant over time to explode in value to offset purchase price over time.

Even if you open it and build it, it will still be worth quite a bit if you keep it in top condition. Even used sets, especially with the original box and instructions, can fetch quite a bit from collectors if they are rare or desirable (not as much as mint in the box, of course).
I collect the old space sets from the '70s and '80s, and I've seen some of those sell for 10x their original price even with damage or missing parts.

Absolutely true, my dad bought lego (robots and sports cars) second hand with box from people, put it together and sold it again at around the same price.
I believe train sets also do well?
Shame, i can remember we had a space ship (and many lego without box) but my dad sold that at the wrong time.

Yeah, that's why it is hard to tell how well it will sell... Even not sure if this rumour made me want to buy it more or less...😅 I would have preferred the plastic sphere I think... A nice sphere... Maybe one where you can open the panels and the rooms are hidden... 🤔

Ten comments on a thread that has "over 9,000" in its title and nobody has made a Dragon Ball Z reference yet? I'm disappointed. :D
I came here to see the reference, so allow me to do the honors. "What does the scouter say about its piece count?" :D

And when that one missing piece is the shield for a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port...

display it, break it down and store it, or break it down and build other things with the pieces

fuck that and the price it road in on. all the parts of the death start can be purchased by the brick soo no limited edition lego pieces
im going for the 1st ever anime to get a lego set.
ONE PIECE
the lego avatar the last airbender sets are worth a fortune and i suspect this will be the same cause lego will pull the sets sooner for some reason. aang mini fig alone is worth 65+ $ used. overwatch sets also skyrocketed in price when they got pulled

What the fuck, the lego set is not based on the anime... The lego set is based on the Netflix series.
I can't look at that faces and see any resemblance with the comic or animated series, this looks like a murder to the One Piece characters.

yes and no.
they would never base a lego set off the anime
turned down an AMAZING lego 1000 sunny build that made it past lego ideas
this is the best we can get

Meh, but I will go probably for the road show event in mall lol. And compare with fake AliExpress figs hahaha

The $1,000 LEGO Star Wars Death Star rumoured for later this year is now believed to feature over 9,000 pieces in the latest rumour update.
Late last year, a rumour surfaced online from a reliable source that a $1,000 (or technically $999.99) Ultimate Collector Series Death Star set would be launching in 2025. We originally speculated that, with licensing costs, such a build might be in the range of 8,000 elements. It’s now stated by an anonymous source and cross-posted by the reliable Clay_Bricks that 75419 UCS Death Star will have a staggering 9,019 pieces.
This combines with the last rumour that the Star Wars set would feature around 40 minifigures, which this source believes. It’s claimed to be launching in October and would easily take the crown as the biggest and most expensive LEGO Star Wars set of all time from 75192 Millennium Falcon, with 7,541 elements for $849.99.
Take all of this information with a pinch of salt or two for now, but that part total is more favourable compared to the rumoured $1,000 price tag than other recent Star Wars sets, including 75401 Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor with just 290 pieces for $44.99.
For a more direct comparison, 10294 Titanic has 9,090 pieces as one of the biggest LEGO sets of all time, and the rumoured UCS Death Star would certainly be joining that list with 9,019 elements.
With caution on hand, a $1,000 LEGO Star Wars set has a lot of work to do to impress, but it can deliver. Here’s what’s currently rumoured and confirmed for LEGO Star Wars this year.
