I need a new mouse-mat. Only problem is that I have no idea what I need to be taking into consideration.

If anyone has some expertise in mouse-mat picking, what should I be looking for?
Thanks.

It needs to be flat and have a picture of a kitten on it.

Desk space and the area of that space that you would dedicate to for mouse movement is the main main thing to think about.
Next is the surface type which is your personal preference.

You can also have a mousepad that covers your whole desk like the ones here. https://www.mousepads.cool/

I personally use 800x300x5mm soft mouse pad as it completely covers the area I have dedicated to my mouse and tenkeyless keyboard. Plus I prefer the extra thickness of the 5mm.

Size and thickness are the only things you really need to worry about unless you're a high level gamer. I just have a cheap mousemat that's extremely thin so it doesn't fuck up my wrist angle, and big enough that I don't slide my mouse off it trying to go across my screen.

That's what she said.

I haven't used a mousepad in ages! If I had to, though, I'd go with a huge one. It always annoyed me when my mouse ran off the edge of the mousepad.

Mousepad and mouse really depend on your needs and what you use it for.

If you're using it to play RTS or FPS a lot then I would suggest a bigger mouse pad as it will allow more movement on the screen without needing to adjust the mouse back onto the pad.Honestly, unless space is an issue I would get one regardless they don't add a lot to the cost.

Again mouse depends on your play style and your needs if you're not a serious gamer or competitive you might get away with a wireless one.Though you don't need one with crazy high DPI as there comes a point when you get diminishing returns or in short super high speed aren't needed.

If you play a lot of MMO's you might want a mouse with a lot of extra buttons for quick access to stuff if you mostly do RPG/FPS then one really is not needed for the most part unless you like that feature.

You really should share what games you play, what you're looking to do with it and if you want comfort vs useful ness and etc and most importantly your budget.

Thanks for the info, though I was just referring to a mouse-mat as in a mousepad.
I think I'll go for the larger one as that would be optimal for an FPS.

I used to have mousepads, until I realized the things accumulate filth terrifyingly fast. I figured it could cause issues with my hand eczema so I dumped them.

A mousepad isn't a complicated thing - look for something with the right thickness/size for your needs, and maybe try to find something made of sturdy/high quality material if you want it to last you longer. I had a cheap one which frayed at the edges pretty quickly. I bought it for a dollar though, so not too bad.

I'll try to look for some of that high-q material, but I'm not sure about how the thickness impacts what yer doing on the screen?

It doesn't - It impacts your hand and wrist comfort in some cases.

I only use a mouse pad when playing competitive shooters like Counter Strike and I use a SteelSeries QCK Mass. It comes in many sizes. It's a great mouse pad, but everyone has their own preferences. Read and watch some reviews comparing mouse pads and decide if you want a thin or thick, soft or hard, big or small pad

Edit: I originally wrote "QCK Heavy", but I use the QCK Mass. I would of went with the Heavy, but I don't have the desk space.

The only negative about it is that it smells like rubber and always will. Your hand will smell like rubber after using it.

I always order these kinda things on miniinthebox. They are all made in China and take forever to deliver. But they are super cheap with free shipping so I don't mind it at all. I hope you find something there.

Well, thanks for all the info. I'm looking at the Corsair Gaming MM200 for some of that cheapness, bigness, non-slippiness, and good-quality-fibreness. It is a 'lil thin, but if anyone had any other comments cautions or cautions it'd be appreciated if you could let me know.

edit: or not

All cloth mouse mats are similar, buy the cheapest you find with your desired size, that Corsair is overpriced.

It is a 'lil thin

The thinner, the better.

Is it animated though? Because if not, that's a big no-no for me when choosing cat mats!

Can't help much, I am afraid -- using the mouse pad that came with my PC, quite ordinary, but never felt like I needed better.

Cheers!

Who needs mousepad? I use it even on my leg!
No, seriously. I mean, i do have one that came as some free gift years ago, quite average and i use it- but i use my notebook with a mouse (also travel with my pc tower across rooms) and often i don't carry a mat. Sofa, any book and even my leg have been used lol

Don't know about gaming(having tried without the mat) but on some software i even prefer getting one of my books that have a nice larger area.

As long as its not ruggy, reflective and can slide a mouse its all game.
