Hello again! You might remember my post from a few days ago. Small update on that: Hands are doing a lot better but I'm still being careful. I'll be going to the doctor next month as well (can't take a leave this month yet), in the meantime I'm playing Danganronpa V3. Enjoying it a lot so far! (although the story made me kinda sad lol) :)

Today I just want to share another game I discovered recently. (You might remember me recommending Townscaper before too. I really like sharing stuff I find cool, haha!)

It's called Coral Island. It's a farming sim game. It's similar to (and probably inspired by) Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, but with mermaids! Plus it incorporates South East Asian (mainly Indonesian) culture as well. Yay for our neighbors. :D There's a ton of variety on romanceable characters too. ^^

Steam
Kickstarter

My thoughts on the game:

I instantly got excited after I discovered it a week ago or so! Today I decided to back the game on Kickstarter after reading some of their dev notes and browsing through their Discord server. They provide detailed updates and their deadlines are imo quite realistic so I just said f it and convinced my sister to get the Deluxe Farmer Pack with me lol. It'll be my first time to preorder a game so I'm kinda nervous and excited about it. I always said I'd never preorder anything or pay full price for any game but I really wanted to try it and couldn't resist the Alpha access perk. XD

So far I'm liking Lily a lot! I think she's very similar to me (Asian descent, programmer, glasses, blue is my fave color so I love her palette + all her outfits are honestly really similar to my wardrobe lmao) so I'm just over the moon lol but honestly I love the character designs so I like all of them anyway. ^^ I like the art too; I think the sprites of the crops and animals are really cute. :)

What are you guys' thoughts on this, and who're your favorite NPCs so far if you have any? :)

Not my type of game, and it looks bad
No opinion/Other

Shouldn't it be in game showcase category?

I think that's only for game developers? I'm not really affiliated with the game so I put it in General.

Thanks for responding! Yup, I really liked it because I liked playing HM games (+other farming sims) a lot ^^ I hope it'll turn out great hehe

About the category, I think it really is for the developers only, though. At least that's what I assumed based on the description on Game Showcase. ^^

i don't tend to back games on KS but i am following Coral Island on steam to see the updates and it deffo looks like a game i'll be into buying upon release provided i have the funds available. the graphics and UI look super nice and i love the animations for the animals. (is that a bouncing ferret in one of the gifs???? so cute!)

That's probably wise tbh. I don't back games or preorder either, but the promise of earlier access to the game lured me in this time since I'm so excited about it. XD I think they're called Luwak! :D

I liked https://store.steampowered.com/app/413150/Stardew_Valley/ so I would probably like this Coral Island too :)

Ooh, I played SDV and enjoyed it as well. Hoping Coral Island would turn out as well or better! :D Have you tried My Time at Portia too? :)

I didn't try My Time at Portia. I have too many RPGs that I need to 100% :P

I discovered this recently too! I was very tempted, although I've never used kickstarter. I probably would have given in, if you could pay half for those middle tiers and get one of everything instead of two. :/
I've added it to my Steam wishlist though and will keep an eye on it!

Yeah, I understand. ^^ I was a bit hesitant too before I had someone else to back it with me. Hopefully you will get to try it out in the future! :)

i dont know why, but the last image reminds me of the artstyle from mulan :D ... i like stardew valley but i think i won't enjoy the game very much. i had something simliar when i tried staxel, in the end my playtime comes from farming cards. Enjoy the game!

AH! Actually, yeah! I thought Yuri looks like Mulan in an alternate universe. XD Ahh, that's understandable. My sister who likes farming sims a lot (she's tried more farming sims than me tbh haha) doesn't like Stardew Valley's art style and won't even try it even though it's like the holy grail for most farming sim enthusiasts, haha! As for me I haven't tried Staxel because I don't really like the Minecraft-look... :( Thanks, hopefully you find another game that you would enjoy! :D

I didn't use to be into farming games but I do feel the need for relaxing colorful games that are you know... outside since this whole pandemic started.
This one looks really good and since I can't grow anything in real life, might as well do it in games, right?

Yup, I can't grow anything irl too and if I tried they probably won't last long, haha! Yeah, I've only left my house about 5 times since the lockdowns started a year ago, so I understand. ^^

Ooh, if you want to play farming games more, there are quite a few on Steam like Stardew Valley or My Time At Portia ^^ Also, you might want to try Harvest Moon or Rune Factory if you have the consoles for them, they're quite fun. :)

I won My Time At Portia and it's already on my gaming list for March. Stardew Valley I heard a lot about. I also have Alchemy Garden which I need to try.
I don't have a console anymore which is a crying shame but I have more games on Steam, Ubi and Origin than I have free time (well, in non pandemic times anyway) so it's alright. Thanks for the tips though, they may find their way to PC some day
