Do you support the use of emoticons on a forum?
The actual appearance is browser*-specific though.
*I assume. They appear differently in my regular browser (most of them are broken boxes) vs my phone browser (graphics that I'm used to from chats). My assumption is that it's browser support of those particular symbols, and not the OS or something dictating their appearance, but I might be wrong. I could check another browser, but I simply don't care enough to bother.

I can't stand them either. It makes reading very distracting.

I still haven't forgotten D:.
I just want a decent search function ;_;

I don't think I ever thought "OH MAN I wish I could use emoticons on SG, it's such a shame that I can't!!!", so I don't really care about them. I don't use emoticons on social media, I don't use them in Steam chat and I won't use them here, the only site that makes good use of emotes is Twitch.
That being said I really don't care either way.

I don't really care about the emoticons. The problem is that they care more about adding emoticons rather than doing some more important changes, that's all.

3rd option for neither supporting nor being against it, rip.

I'd say you should vote "yes" then, since you aren't against them.

I think the excitement of them being introduced will stick for a bit but give it a few days and you will probably barely see them xD

Exactly, tbh I won't use them unless I see one I can conveniently copy and paste...
But I have nothing against them. They're just emojis, I use them in texting all the time, don't see why its a big deal now xD

I'm surprised. I didn't know about this feature being introduced. But then again, I'm too busy these days to pop into the forums and have a good read. I think today is the first day this week that I opened the forums.
To be honest, I don't really care about it. I use it a lot in Whatsapp to convey what I'm feeling if the text is too ambiguous but I prefer to use the ASCII art faces ( I think they are called Lenny faces? ) and gifs to achieve the same here.

I think you might be being overly hopeful.
See, making thread titles in all caps, or with lots of special characters, people tend to stay away from that because it's understood to be frowned upon. But emojis? Emojis are just additive, right?
For people that find emojis an agreeable addition to such things, they'll be a compelling way to make thread titles stand out.
Of course, you may be right about them diminishing a bit within threads, but I couldn't care less about that aspect. :P

Anyone else dissatisfied with the change? I don't like them. I hate Facebook and I hate forums which support emojis. I know cg meant well but... sheesh. I mean, I'll get used to it I guess, but it's still really annoying to me at the moment. Guess I'm just a grumpy old party-pooper.
