I think you'll see a trend of emoticons usage just for the novelty of it, for a while, and then it will die off and will be used sparingly for "appropriate" (i.e in context) comments/threads. Or maybe I'm wrong and it's a new meme-esque plague ;)
TBH, I don't have a problem with having access to more features, whatever they may be, so people can have more tools whether it's for practical reasons (SGT integration into SG please) or expression at their disposal.
What I do hate is when people exchange real effort of elucidating their messages with emoticons, and the same goes to GIFs and memes. But that's rampant all over forums so I just ignore it.

It seems like CG just expanded the character set to include all unicode characters, and your browser does the rest. Blame their ugliness on your browser. Chrome has these big colourful things, Edge does not.

I have Firefox too and when I first saw them I thought one of my many SG scripts updated and it was a new feature and not a site upgrade until I saw the announcement. There's an add-on that allows you to easily use them so I figured if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Trivial thing for you, annoying thing for someone else. If you're used to emojis and all that crap that fine. But personally, I stay away from social media platforms for multiple reasons, which includes ugly spammy emojis.
Also, you also have enough time on your hands to complaint about me so I don't see why I shouldn't have time to complaint about this. :P

Anyone else dissatisfied with the change? I don't like them. I hate Facebook and I hate forums which support emojis. I know cg meant well but... sheesh. I mean, I'll get used to it I guess, but it's still really annoying to me at the moment. Guess I'm just a grumpy old party-pooper.
