Not dead. I have no problem in finding players no matter how absurd the time is.
Don't remember all of the details but now devs regained their rights from EA to develop their game again or the rules are less strict than before. They're slowly adding all the stuff they wanted to add to the game before EA took the reins.
IMO game is going in the right way but it may be indeed too late to make it big. Right now it feels like bare bones of the game it supposed to be. Nevertheless, game is fun and enjoyable in short sessions.
