This sounds and looks great! Not every game (FIFA, Sims 4 etc.) is published right now, but they will probably come in the next few weeks or months.

Next two waves should be on June 11th (headlined by Battlefield V) and June 18th (headlined by The Sims 4).

They will come later, I think. (more "modern" games first, then the older ones)

Those prices though... Unless they introduce proper regional pricing, I'm not buying a thing from them on Steam. Oh yeah, and I'll never buy another EA game on Origin anyway because they force Russian interface and subtitles on me.

Whenever A Way Out is up I’ll wishlist it. I kinda wish they’d give Origin/ Steam reciprocity, it would be nice to move the games I have over to my primary platform. But hey, I’ll take not being tied down to a secondary launcher.

Most (if not all) of EA games coming to Steam require Origin.. (just like Ubi games on Steam require Uplay)

I read through the entire article and it doesnt say anything about more games coming, let alone the "entire EA catalogue." Honestly, unless you can find a citation proving this, you should change the headline of this post.

that still doesn't mean that the entire catalogue was published on steam. it was not. the venture beat article as well as the business wire article do not say that every EA game is coming to steam. EA has never announced that this will happen.

So what game do you think is not coming to Steam? Or just arguing semantics when they are just starting the comeback?

For more information on upcoming games bound for Steam, tune in to EA Play Live on EA.com at 4pm PST on June 11.

battlefront games, battlefield games, i think it goes beyond semantics to say "entire catalogue" there is totally no guarantee of that

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There is no guarantee there is a Steam tomorrow. But if they are announcing bringing games back to Steam, why would they skip some games? Especially when they are also bringing EA Access to Steam. Battlefield was already announced.

Just wait a week for their live announcement about more games before declaring it wont be all games. All games that even work on a modern PC that is, of course not some ancient or console only games.

im not declaring what they will do. im declaring what theyve done and what theyve promised to do. and publishing the whole ea catalogue to steam would make for a much larger story than what theyre actually doing.

Still no "Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition" on Steam (can be found on GoG, though).

Edit: I forgot that. Yes, it's just that the Ultimate Edition is inaccessible on Steam from France because of totally unjustified regional restrictions. Probably some people at EA are just too lazy to update the Steam version to make it compatible with some countries.

I just noticed all those games have the "EA Access" ad; are they planning to sell Origin's subscription on Steam?.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's very likely .... on the bottom of this store page it says "EA access Coming soon to Steam". Not that I'd be interested. I already have those of their games I'm interested in either on Steam or Origin, so when I previously had 2 months EA access free, I didn't even use it once.

I knew there were reasons for this and not just -we are such good guys, enjoy previous origin exclusive games on steam-, nha, they want to inflate the user numbers on origin with forcing the launcher on steam like Uplay for Ubisoft games; except EA also wants to sell subscriptions for another platform on the competition store....thats now a new level only EA could achieve.

Well, they'd probably argue the other way round: they offer you a choice - a more convenient way to buy their ea access subscription directly on Steam. Some folks might actually prefer that, because they can pay with Steam wallet for example. You'd still need to run their Origin client, which sucks, but at least there will probably be a warning about that on the store page (something like "Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required."). Personally I would like to have it even more clearly, like a confirmation that asks you to agree during checkout, like "this is a subscription and it uses 3-rd-party-DRM software - I am aware of that and agree <OK>". When I was new to Steam and didn't know anything about those different launchers I felt pretty cheated when Ubisoft tricked me with Anno2070 ... even today there's still no warning that it requires Uplay. At least EA is upfront about it.

"Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required. " ... so it's a trap: double-DRM :-) Same as Uplay. Better getting those games directly on Origin. I have most of what I'm interested in anyway.

Microsoft is on board, just need Sony, and Nintendo and we will truly have a much more open and free market. Consumers win with decisions like this.

"open and free market" - I don't think you understand how EA works. Also Nintendo will never give up exclusivity to most of their IP, so you can keep dreaming there.

Still requires Origin, and so there won't be Steam achievements. They may as well just piss off for good and stay on Origin.

Origin didn't include a way to remap controller, and in some games, it was impossible or lacking.
And now we can remap controller on Steam using big picture to play Origin games.

For me, because of disability, it's a huge positive change, i just repurchased mirror's edge catalyst and i'm waiting for next sale to repurchase some other games.

For the same reason i'd to give up buying ubisoft games when ubi left Steam to Uplay : many Ubi games don't have full controller remapping and Uplay doesn't offer full controller remapping that overwrites default in-game config.

Permalink

i used x360ce to remap an old controller i had. Just leaving the homepage if you want to try it in games outside steam

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thanks for your answer ! It's a good idea and i used x360ce on some non Origin games, but didn't manage to use it on Origin games (i tried on Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Need for speed rivals and Fifa, unfortunately, it didn't overwrite in-game config).

Remapping is not enough, it must have priority over the default one. And what is amazing with Steam big picture mode, it's that big picture controller config always overwrites in-game config ! Super easy, super fast, always works ! ^_^
