In the case of the games which activate on Steam, the box will contain an activation code, which you can type into Steam and begin downloading, so you will never need the disc :)
Presumably this is the same for Origin too.

That sucks. I considered making some disparaging comment about Origin, but it isn't worth the fallout...
As far as Steam is concerned though, if you have a key, you don't need to use the disc. Ever :)

Hi. I got a gaming pc recently but I havent got an optical drive yet. Now I can find hard copies of recently released games cheaper than on steam, but as I dont have an optican drive will I be able to activate them on steam/origin aswell?
