Believe me, it's not fun. Spy Hunter did better in 1983.

I like to show off some of my really old badges, like the 2011 Summer Sale one. Its nostalgic for me to remember those old events. Either that or I'll go with either cute fishies/cute robots.

Since you mentioned badges from old events this is one of my favourites that almost made the list. The artwork is cute and it felt really cool to win an auction eventhough I didn't have an insane number of gems ๐

Witcher 2 has some really cool badges, i prefer THE WHITE WOLF, it is the one i have featured in my profile.

Cool ๐
Thats another special* one I've always would have liked to have - just like those Steamwork dev and Community Translator badges we were talking about further below.
I think that Beta was a year or two before I started using Steam. It seems for a while afterwards you could still get the badge by using the TC Beta item but I guess it's too late for that now and people are just holding on to those items as collectables.

Thanks! ๐
I'm pretty sure Channel is right and it won't give the badge anymore that was also what I had previously heard but I still wouldn't mind having one as memorabilia. I've sent you a friend request.

That brings back memories ๐
I spent over 1000 hours as a N7 operative in the original Mass Effect 3.
Made good friends from all around the world and had a great time in general.
Sadly I lost contact with quite a few of them when I made the switch from Xbox 360 to PS4.

i dont have badges cuz it looks like its pay to win to get them
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually you do have a couple because occasionally you get free badges for participating in events and stuff like that but I get what you mean.
Well... as you probably already know when you play a game that has Trading cards you get half a set +1 if the set has an odd number of cards for free, complimentary with your game purchase. Then when you have gotten all your free drops from a game you become eligible for Booster packs. That means every now and then when lots of badges for that game have been crafted you might get a free Booster pack with 3 cards to further help you complete your badges.
You could also take your free cards from game A and swap them with somebody to complete set B. But finding the right trading parter who is willing to do cross set swaps and has the cards you need is time consuming, so as you suggested most people also buy cards from the Community market.
So yeah, all added up it does cost a few โฌ extra but I consider it a nice way to showcase my love for games I particularly enjoyed or show off artwork I like ๐
Comment has been collapsed.
ok yeah thats true. I do wish if you got 100% achievements in games then it would give you all the cards but im sure people would cheat it.
Comment has been collapsed.
You bet ๐๐๐
Two or three years before I started using Steam there was an event where you could earn free games by getting achiements in participatig games.
People cheated so shamelessly Valve never did anything of that kind again ๐

Agreed on the Sega Classics badge. I also like this one just because I love the Metal Slug games: https://steamcommunity.com/id/Jimmeroo/gamecards/312610/

And sometimes Dragons are naughty.. Soo.. Yeah
That's when I put on my Hero Pants and quickly realize - who am I kidding?! I'm no hero. I can't Save the day. I'm just a casual gamer. Busy being my own worst enemy.

Hey.. I'm as clueless as the next dufus these days. I'm pretty sure that whatever I would present to a princess - would lable me a creep. Even though I'm completely innocent. I promise!
With that said.. I give you my sword.. ladies.
Anyone?.. hm?.. no?..

Heeey.. hoo(e).. don't get me canceled.
Or why not.. Treat me mean, I need the reputation.
How far are we gonna take this? I feel blacklists coming in to the beat.

There would be a perfect GIF for this in Apple TVs Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet. a.k.a. Working at Ubisoft the TV show Sadly it's on Apple TV and therefor nobody saw it and made that GIF ๐
brilliant coder & definitely not a people person Poppy Li says something insensitive and the rest of the room objects saying she might get canceled
P.L.: "I'm a woman of colour I can't get canceled."
(small pause)
"Can I?" (wonders to herself)
Anyway... if anybody tries to cancel (you or) me they'll have to deal with my human ๐ And that guy is batshit crazy even for human standards. But he gives the best belly rubs.

Yeah, those Steamworks Developer & Community Translator badges are something truely special, simply because of all the hard work and dedication it takes to get them. If you don't mind me asking on which game(s) did you help with the translation?
I remember hearing about the program a couple years ago and wanted to chip in - the german translation of Terraria was insultingly bad back then - but in the end I was too lazy ๐
Comment has been collapsed.
No, it's not a secret :) The maximum level was obtained in 2.5 years.
The badge is awarded for work on Steam and all Valve projects.
All languages are available to me, but I spent most of my energy on Ukrainian.
More than two hundred games where I helped with Belarusian, Russian and English. I have experience in other languages as well. There are very different projects.

I did translate some strings into Polish, felt funny to have some sneak peak into sales or features, as they had to translate stuff before it was released.
I tried to log in now and did not recognize this crowdin website. Looks like STS that I used was closed down year ago. Well SG took priority at some point xD
Edit: Now I vaguely remember there was some drama with STS. Not fun. I think I stopped to contribute around that time.

Yeah, it was useful to know some Steam secrets :D
And also get nice things... like Artifact :D
Valve has long prepared a move from STS. Their site is very out of date for Valve's current tools.
Everyone who previously worked is admitted to Crowdin, and new ones are being recruited. You can just contact your team.
Well, my dramas are much simpler. It's a shame that we couldn't bring the Belarusian language to the official release :D

Not going to, right now I want to focus on practicing Python and learning R. Time is not made from rubber ;D Also don't have as much time as I had 7 years ago, when I was around time of uni graduation.
Not enough users from Belarus for Valve to bother? Sad.

Cat Worshipper just feels too appropriate!
That's adorable ๐ I also like to pick up Corgi and dog related stuff whenever I come across something but my collection is nowhere as impressive as yours ๐
The Winter Sale 2019 had some nice Corgi emoticons and stickers but out of all sales that was one of the few I was only semi-active and only managed to get a couple of the daily drops. I might have to pickup the missing emoticons later because they're really cute ๐

Yeah, I like that one particularly as well. I had it featured for almost a year before I got into Despotism and noticed that one has a really cute Lvl 1 badge as well.
I seriously have to get back into Hitman and Hitman 2 and play around more with the rubber duckies. If I remember correctly they work very much like remote C4 but I wonder if people still get suspicious when they see them or if they float when you try to use them in a swimming pool.

sometimes you meet people with like 2k steam awards and its from one comment or review....
Comment has been collapsed.
I've mostly paid attention to Steam awards on reviews and what I found a little sad is that in the vast majority of cases it's not the really good reviews - where somebody played a game for 30 or 50 hours and took an hour or two to put their thoughts to paper - that get lots of awards but usually 2 sentence long meme reviews with lots of typos, all caps or ASCI art from the internet.
Maybe I'm expecting too much from a platform mainly made for gaming where potentially a large portion of the users are kids ๐

So... my apartment is a bit of a mess right now so obviously I decided to do something truely useful and put together a list of my favourite Steam badges so that I don't always showcase the same 2 or 3 on my profile. While putting together that list I thought it might make an interesting topic for a thread since there's probably no other place with so many Steam Trading card enthusiasts like here. So without further ado... Here is my list:
Bad Rats Badge - Bad Rat Junior
Obviously this THE BEST badge of them all. And since I haven't seen this game to rule all other games mentioned for some time and I'm noticing so many newcomers here recently I thought we need to teach them the ways of our people (insert dancing spider GIF) ๐
HITMAN 2 Badge - Professional
A highly professional rubber ducky... What else is there to say.
Despotism 3k Badge - Aspiring Despot
My current Indie affair
Terraria Badge - Night's Edge
My first and always Indie love here on Steam
FTL: Faster Than Light Badge - Captain
This game should be waay higher up - potentially the top spot but just like Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff
you can't put Terraria and Starbound next to each other without causing a bloodbath.
Starbound Foil Badge - Matter Manipulator
The "pickaxe" of starbound.
Starbound Badge - Wire Tool
SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics Badge
The console of my childhood - also most ergonomic controller back in the beforetime. Generally we just used sharp rocks as controllers.
Prison Architect Badge - Major
This game is perfection
Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps And Beans Badge - Puffin
While I haven't played this game nearly enough yet every Bud Spencer & Terence Hill fan knows:
Puffin schenkt dir die Kacke die du brauchst
Party Hard Badge - Partying Hard
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - A guy who knows a guy who knows Geralt
Best badge name EVER! Or maybe 2nd best but we'll get to that later
Life is Strange Badge - Apprentice
Borderlands 2 Badge - Please don't shoot me!
Silly little robot ๐
Sadly I made the mistake of leving up the Chivalry: Medieval Warfare badge past level 1 otherwise this would be the best badge name ever of all times ๐
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Badge
This badge reminds me of a SteamGifts original who no longer uses this site. Maybe some of the other old farts here will know who I mean...
That's it folks... This is my list.
What are yours?
