When redeeming an Amazon Prime code on GOG, I got the following prompt. Has anyone tried this or heard anything about it?

"Thank you for redeeming your code:
You're missing out on a $40 bonus! Just add the free Capital One Shopping extension and avoid paying full price. This free tool does the work for you."

I don't know why this offer is on GOG, but according to Reddit, it's a cash back company and you get the $40 90 days after installing their browser extension.

Please DO NOT CLICK any links on my linked page!

As Chris mentioned.

Seems it has been happening for a few years and is associated with redeeming Amazon Prime codes only.

If you turn off marketing consent you can apparently get rid of it or install an adblocker - in the footer (very bottom) of GOG is a "Cookie Declaration", if you have an adblocker it won't do anything, if you don't then it will allow all the cookie related stuff, and allow you to "Change your consent" as well.

That's a shitty thing even if limited to amazon keys

Never happened to me with any of the many Amazone Prime GOG keys I redeemed. And I really can't imagine this is from GOG itself. You might have caught some sort of browser hijack or similar malware and/or maybe you didn't end up on the actual GOG page for some reason.

Capital One does have a rewards program and a coupon program. And it also does have browser pop ups. Which doesn't mean what you're seeing is legit, but those ARE all things Capital One does.

Chris is spot on. For anyone who may not be aware, Capitol One is very big bank in the US, they rolled out this program better part of a decade ago and promote it with some very pricey ads... maybe we can all hate the banking system, but they have some good stuff for little cog in the machine consumers.

That said, for me I skip this browser extension stuff for capitol one; it's not altogether dissimilar to that Honey program... in fact, when I was fact checking Honey's name, apparently Capital One is also a defendant in that class action lawsuit about stealing referral link revenue, according to this YT video I'm just now watching
