Do you have to leave a generic "thanks" to win a giveaway?

I hate thanksbots.

Maybe I'm weird but I like this "thanks" in every giveaway. When I'm doing some giveaway I wait for every comment and I'm glad when I see so many thanks. It's just nice and polite. I don't get it when people get mad because someone use generic "Thanks!" in every GA. Better this than nothing. :-)

my feeling is that if you want to give away something (a game in this case), you just do it and don't expect anything in change, neither a thanks nor some points added to your cv level nor whatever else.

nevertheless as a winner of a giveaway i feel compelled by good manners to thank in a personal way the gifter, and the same happens if i have access to a giveaway that has something special, be it a puzzle to solve or a special requirement that i'm able to fulfill or an individual or group invitation to a restricted giveaway or a very desirable game or the gifter being somebody i know. beside that kind of cases, i try to thank anyway, but these days i do it only if i'm not in a hurry, and even then i tend to be somewhat repetitive.

Everybody's just misspelling Tanks. The love for tanks is very common here at SteamGifts.

I've seen some giveaways with comments like "If you don't comment and win, I'll ask for a re-roll"

As everyone has already said, no you don't. In fact, I suggest against "generic" thanks. If you are grateful for the giveaway, say it, and mean it.

I don't see it as an anticipated thanks for the game, but as for the potentially chance that he/she is giving me to win the game.

instead of spamming those generic crap, people who are really thankful should perhaps write something individual, or leave a joke, good quote or something other one really wants to read.

Saying "thank you" in a giveaway is EXTRA HERETICAL!

On my last giveaway I made I didn't receive a thanks after sending the winner the e-mail with their key. They just marked it as received and that's all. :P I was mildly disappointed, but whatever.

I like to thank in a more formal way through mail after I win a GA, I don't really enjoy posting one line thank yous in every public GA...!
