If you have way too much time, go for Twilight Imperium.
Axis and Allies is pretty nice, too, depending on how many players you have.
If you want just fun, without thinking too much, try War On Terror The Board Game.
Putsch, by Queen Games is also always fun, althoough I´m not sure if it was translated to english.

for me it's Resistance and Pandemic, one to see how despicably good at lying a person can be and one to see how cooperative everyone should be in order to save the world.

Kingsburg is a great game, though to really enjoy it you should also get the 'To Forge a Realm' expansion.
