So I bought Deus Ex Human Revolution in the G2A sale earlier this year only to learn that it's not the Director's cut version.

So I was wondering, is the game still pretty good or is Director's cut version far superior?

I know the difference has to do something with the boss battles, but I would like to get the opinions of those who actually played the game(s)of how different it really is

Thanks :D

Yes.

Basically the newer version integrates the "Missing Link" DLC into the main game and allows more options for stealth-based/non-violent characters. I believe there were some technical issues initially, but I haven't heard any complaints in awhile.

Personally, I only played the original before the recut and have nothing but positive things to say about the game. It's hard to imagine they made it worse, but I doubt it's "far superior" as it mostly seemed like a repackaging of the original. But if you haven't played the game at all, I'd go with the newer version.

I did some research a while ago when I though of upgrading to The Director's Cut (I already own the original and The Missing Link DLC). It turns out that The Director's Cut version is - believe it or not - somewhat inferior to the original version, mostly because it's a port from Wii U that was made from an earlier build, and therefore brings back bugs and issues that were already patched in the original release!

In short, here are some pros and cons of The Director's Cut that I managed to dig up (mostly from Steam Discussions):

Pros:

  • all DLC is included and carefully placed throughout the game (instead of just putting bonus items in your inventory at the start)
  • boss fights are redefined to better fit the game (more options to defeat bosses)
  • contains New Game + mode and "Making of" videos
  • removes the gold filter from global lightning (depends on your personal preference)

Cons:

  • many people report a lot of performance issues (not present in the original)
  • slightly lower quality graphics (certain textures, reflections, effects...)
  • brings back a lot of bugs that were already fixed in the original version
  • removes the gold filter from global lightning (again, personal preference)

My personal conclusion was that it was not worth it, the benefits are just not good enough to justify the downsides and the price. Also, I don't see any reason why I should give them more money for a poorly done job.

More or less this.

Director's Cut is worth it only if you want to play this game as shooter (then New Game+ will make it easier, as you'll have bunch of shooty-skills upgraded) or to listen to commentaries. But without those two it feels worse.

As far as I know, there are only 2 differences:

  • Missing Link DLC is played during the main story, instead of being played after the end (which makes more sense)
  • Boss fights can be played "the stealth way"
I didn't notice any other change, but I didn't play the director's cut to the end. Base version is really a great game in my humble opinion, my advice is to simply play it - and enjoy it. You're not missing important things without the DirCut edition.

I played the vanilla game with the DLC and found it was awesome. I know people didn't like not being able to handle the boss battles well with their stealth builds, but since I loathe playing stealthily most of the time, it wasn't an issue for me.

The game has solid voicework, excellent audio, a fantastic setting, and tons of little bits of story hidden in vaults or on hack-able computers.
