That's why I'm always hunting bad people who break rules.

As example, I always tend to check "Lastest received gifts" at bottom page for privates. Some people tends to do privates with two entries but they are friends who "check as received" like a favor without receiving a game or his alternate accounts to win contributor value.

Now, how do you find them?

By the way, always remember not posting names for rule breakers because that is calling out and would lead you to a suspension.

Keep in mind that some people have games removed from their accounts that they didn't like. For example: I was interested in Dead Space, I won, played it and had it removed because I'd never want to finish it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

From any SG user point of view, this looks like a "not activating his games won"

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This heavily depends on how you want to interpret the fact that it is (no longer) in my library. You can jump to this conclusion and I can see why you would, but this doesn't necessarily make it true.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But that would be up to you to explain this to the mods if anyone reported you. 99% of the times people won't ask for games to be removed from their accounts so it's usually safe to assume that a game not appearing on someone's account hasn't been activated.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I absolutely understand this, but I just wanted to say that it's essentially a witch hunt because you can assume it is that way, but you cannot prove it. It won't stop anyone here, I guess and it is at the mods' sole discretion as they run this site, but still: It will inevitably lead to false positives.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

ok, let's just assume that you are indeed honest.

Why the fuck would you deactivate a game just because you didn't like it? (which it isn't, you have a bad taste on games if you think dead space is bad)

Second, it's a gift from someone, why would you throw someone's gift to you?

There's a shit ton of options to hide dead space on your library if you actually detest it. You just took the hard way to bother steam support to deactivate it in your account

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean (I think) it's a bad game. I honestly see the appeal and why many people would like it, but I didn't find the story particularly engaging and the controls were kinda frustrating to get used to (I rarely play third-person shooters).

I give every game at least 2hrs to convince me to finish it and if it fails and even a little research can't keep me going - I drop it. I only have 17 games left in total after 5 1/2 years and 3 are still in progress while the others are definitely to be replayed.

You can't keep every gift forever (physically anyway) so just because I didn't keep it, doesn't mean I didn't value/appreciate it. I don't like clutter and since this procedure is outlined in the SSA, I don't see a problem with making use of it ^^

I actually made a different account on Steam to test (relatively inexpensive) games to cut down on the support tickets I send, but the rules here make it an obligation to activate the game on the account registered to the site.

I'm aware this might be an over-the-top system for stuff like that, but it proved to work best for me and keeps me sane ;)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

wooooooooow, So you joined a giveaway, placed an entry knowing that you have a chance to win, and just because you didn't liked it you're gonna throw it away?

I guess you haven't heard that you can create a separate category in your library so you can't see those games that "can't convince you"

Next time don't enter giveaways if you're gonna use it as a fucking demo, other people will appreciate it more. What a bullshit reasoning to remove games on your library. People like you clogs steam support on processing other important tickets.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Getting a game is always a risk. You can inform yourself (and I always do), but you never know.

According to your standards I should only enter games I already own, then. In the end it doesn't matter if the game is still in my account, if I don't play it.

That being said, in this regard I'm still well above everyone who doesn't even launch/install games they win - and there a lot of people who would rather call themselves collectors of games than players and I'm not one of them. It's not that I'm judging them, but you react like I was on the absolute bottom pit of what would constitute an excuse for human existence.

I don't think that there are more or less important tickets. We are all customers and if one takes the time to set up an extra account to write a ticket - well, then it's not only apparently important to them, but also their right. The only people I hear complaining about clogged steam support are those that lost their account due to scams/phishing - while it might be true that they are also the most vocal bunch I'm pretty sure they have a low priority to begin with.

I can't force you to see the reasoning behind my actions or to applaud me for it, but my point still stands: I neither break the rules nor do I exploit anything in a particularly spiteful way.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are mistaken, I said only join a giveaway if you see a game that you like but doesn't have yet. That's why the store page is linked in every giveaway. There is no risk in winning a game. It's more of a risk to the giveaway creator to have someone like you win a giveaway just deactivate it weeks after.

And no, you're not on the bottom pit, probably 2nd to the bottom most.
You cannot have an unwanted gift with digital games (since you are linked with the store page of the game). I can understand throwing an unwanted gift (troll gift of bad rats), but it is not unwanted at all.

And yes there are more important tickets that should be accounted to, what you are doing is unnecessary work for them when you can just organize your games, since you just said you only have "17" games.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

A gift is not an obligation and even the most well-informed decisions can lead to games you wish you didn't buy/win. If I just randomly entered giveaways of games that look remotely interesting I'd be well beyond the 89 giveaways I actually entered. In fact, it's the CV system and Steam that keeps me from giving the game to someone else who might actually enjoy it until the end.

I also can't help but find it kind of hypocritical that someone with 500+ unplayed games tells me to appreciate things more. We are more similar than you might think and face the same problem: So many games. So little time. We just have different ways to deal with it.

In the very end many of them will remain unplayed/unfinished - the only difference is that you kept them and I didn't.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And that the problem, you don't keep them, a person usually will keep a gift from someone else no matter how bad it is, just throwing it away is beyond words to describe. Also entering for a game that turns out that you don't like is entirely your fault, not the gifter's that would condemn the gift to such treatment.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Without pirating a game there is always a risk that you don't like the game, even if you inform yourself.

Also, stop giving gifts with the obligation for the other person to keep it. Yes, it's nice and the other person appreciated it, but most things overstay their welcome at one point or another in everybody's life. You don't evaluate the amount of respect someone has for you by how long this person keeps your gifts around.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Then don't enter giveaways, or just, you know, don't freaking throw the gift away.

It's not an obligation I should hope the other person keep, it's a basic tact. If someone gifts you something, you keep it, don't like it, throw in the the basement, or throw it a dew years later, but throwing it away, and less than a month after, that's is just big 'wow'.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not basic tact. You see the gift as an extension of yourself as you have expectations regarding the way the gift has to be handled. Otherwise, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Then it is not a gift. Your way with that gift ends the moment it leaves your hand.

1 decade ago
Permalink

I'd say, removing the game is as worse as not activating it, it's like someone gave you agit, you used it abit, didn't like it much and threw it away, even worse when you consider the fact that it was a giveaway, and so instead of someone who would enjoy the game, you got it and threw it away.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Was gonna type a comment, but yeah, this pretty much is what I'd have to say about it. I personally wouldn't really like gifting a game to someone, to have that person remove it from their account if they don't happen to like it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There was no way of knowing that beforehand. It looked promising and I wanted to play it. I followed the same reasoning as everyone else here. You guys really make it seem like I joined the giveaway just because I didn't want anyone else to win.

I could silently let it rot in my account like everyone else on this site does with games they got, but didn't like for whatever reason. However, I don't see to what benefit.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ok, that's your problem, there's always the chance of a game to turn out bad, If you want to enter a giveaway, but fear that the game not might be actually good, than don't enter giveaways then, simple like that.

Letting a gift to silently rot and not throwing it away no matter how bad it is is basic tact! You don't see the benefit? You freaking got a game for free, about what freaking benefit are you talking about?

If you can't respect a gift with the appropriate treatment, don't try to get gifts. Because the moment you throw away a game you spit in the face of the game, the gifter, and everyone else who had the chance to win it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I have given away 3 games so far. I bought one with a coupon I had, but I still paid money. However, I don't give the least of a damn what anyone does with the games they got. I do the same with gifts in 'reality'.

If they enjoy it, cool. If they don't, I'm also fine with that. Did they remove it? Sure, why not? Everybody is the king of their own library.

EDIT: I gift things because I believe someone else will enjoy it or might make use of it. I have no expectations whatsoever regarding the actual enjoyment this person gets out of it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

If there's someone suicidal, it doesn't mean that you can kill him. There's tact, basic treatment/respect that you should act with no matter what the other person thinks or treats it.

And first of all, who said he doesn't care, it doesn't matter what the hell you think, if you gifted something and ok if someone threw it away, it doesn't mean that everyone else who gifted something feel the same. Killing someone because you're ok with someone killing you doesn't justify the murder.

EDIT: better metaphor for first point, you wouldn't go and sleep with someone's wife just because they are in a bad relationship.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I find it deeply worrying what you compare it to and I'm somewhat sad that you guys set yourselves up for disappointment if someone doesn't do what you expect him to do (as in treating gifts). That's all I can say about it and I explained myself more than enough. I'll leave this site now, then, if my behaviour will only lead to disappointment and potentially even anger.
