All this talk about net neutrality has got me thinking about how much a free market actually does to keep price competitive, especially with all the monopolies that telecommunication companies have all over the world.

I currently pay $40 USD a month for 200Mbps fibre internet, home line with free local calls and a "slightly" unreliable IPTV. And more for cable TV obviously. I could have 1 Gbps for the same price without IPTV but no switching mobile phones every year. So how much do you pay for your internet? I live in Singapore BTW and I feel so bad about complaining right now...

Actually I just want to give away a copy of Contrast but need a reason to open a thread. LVL 1 and above only though.

Edit: Over sorry.

P.S. Obligatory John Oliver video. That man's a genius.

Do you feel ripped off by your telco/carrier?

about 40€/month for 7Mbps/0,3Mbps (down/up) and unlimited calls -.-

I've been reached by fiber (FTTC) recently, but they want 55€/month for 30Mbps/3Mbps :/

What a fucking rip off.

I'd rather commit suicide with that kind of price and speed.

heh... there are not many options here, all ISPs have had roughly the same ADSL prices and bandwidth for years, things are changing a bit with more people/homes being reached by fiber, maybe we'll have a decent connection in a couple years :/

Numericable it's only in France though. It's from a annual deal in partenariat with a website called "ventesprivées".
I also got 25 channels and unlimited phone local + 100 other places.

So it's pretty neat =)

I also live in France, hence the question. I also have Numericable but I pay more than you. I'm also familiar with ventesprivées, I'll try to pay more attention to their offers.

(I'm sharing deals links, those links are in french and I'll therefore talk in french. Sorry for any inconvenience.)

Ici: https://www.dealabs.com/bons-plans/numericable-istart--49mois-pendant-un-an-et-power--109emois/81821

I feel a little bit ripped off, but then i look at the average connection speed here in Italy and it turns out that it's pretty good.

I pay 48$ monthly for a 20 Mbps (1 Mb upload) and unlimited local calls (connection fee excluded)

Mostly I feel ripped off because in Australia we're still running copper lines that are 40yrs past their use by date, so if I manage to get a stable connection it's about 4Mb/s down - $65/month for 250Gb total data. Very few reliable providers have unlimited, which also sucks.

Just over 30€/month for a 100/100 Mbps fiber connection. It will be upgraded to 1Gbps at some point in a not too distant future. Phone is not included.
