I saw this, but some people are questioning its legitimacy. It is odd that I still have the copy in my gifts section on Steam though.

So, people are apparently worried that now that it is free, a boatload of hackers are going to start ruining TF2. I don't get that at all... People who pay for games still use hacks, it doesn't matter if it's free.

When they get VAC banned, they have to drop money to get back in the game. If it is free, a VAC ban is nothing.

The biggest surprise in this for me in how unfriendly the TF2 community seems. Instead of looking forward to new players, training them and what not, they'd rather just bitch and call them noobs.

They are implementing some new system to keep the cheaters and idlers out, and every gamer was 10 at some point... Instead of calling them noobs, teach them the ropes, how to play.

I just popped out of a random pub server with a 5:1 KDR and 12 dominations. Besides once earlier this week to warm up, I have not played TF2 in something like 2 months. Hopefully this wears out after a week or so...

I think I am going to take part in that mentoring program.

indeed. you get some limitations when you got the game for free, but those are removed once you spend any amount of money on the game, either by having purchased it before or by spending money in the shop

To use the Steam wallet you actually have to load it with a minimum of $5. So even if the cheapest item is 50 cents, you still lose 5 bucks.
