Never uΡderstand why "pride"? Does they do something useful for socium? Builds a hospital? Helps poor people?

There is a wiki entry explaining it, if you are really curious.

No, it's because of pornographic pictures on imgur, not because of election. Wiki blocked not because of election too, by the way, As I remember, there are some bad words about Erdogan in Wiki.

original posting:
Gay pride or LGBT pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements throughout the world. << [wiki: gay_pride]
you're welcome :)

Ok, understood. This is same story, like about "homophobic" - LGBT members meant something different from standard meaning.

Yeah, somewhere in the past few years people started thinking "phobia" = hate, but only in the case of LGBT I think. It makes communication very confusing when people constantly redefine words rather than just make new ones or use ones that fit their meaning better.

Agreed. Especially it's funny, when somebody feels negative attitude, not hate, but anyway they call it "phobia".

A reasonable argument can be made that someone cannot hate a whole group of people without fear of difference being involved. Phobia doesn't mean running scared, it's an extreme and irrational aversion to something.
And "LGBT members" don't "meant something different from standard meaning". Pride is the opposite of shame. Seems pretty straightforward (no pun intended) when it comes to the LGBT community, no?

You are wrong. Because fear and hate are different psychological mechanisms. Fear work as "fight or run". But hate works only like "fight". If you hate somebody, you will never fear him.
And yes "Phobia" means unreasonable fear, not aversion. For example I have an arachnophobia. But I don't hate spiders, I don't feel any aversion to them, I even consider, that spiders are beautiful. But I'm afraid of them. Without reason. So you argument isn't correct.
And I disagree, that pride is opposite shame. Just because pride is result of something, well, heroic - If you save a child from fire - it's a pride. If you help a girl, attacked by group of street scum - it's a pride. If you help homeless people - it's pride. But if you marsh on the street, showing to everybody, that you are 200 kilo fat guy and you sure, that this is good - this is not pride. It's ridiculous egoism.
I don't feel anything negative to LGB's (Yep, I don't like T's, because i think, that they are weak cowards), and if G act like a man, I'll shake his hand and hug him, and I don't care about his sexual orientation. But even I dislike this "LGBT prides", because it like "Hey look at us, we are gays, you have to respect us".

If you hate somebody, you will never fear him.
That's false. In fact, one could even go so far as to say hatred can be born of fear.
Even with your spider analogy, that statement is false. A young child may hate spiders because they fear them.
And I disagree, that pride is opposite shame.
Again, incorrect. Source: http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/shame
But even I dislike this "LGBT prides", because it like "Hey look at us, we are gays, you have to respect us".
No words. Just a facepalm.

Look, you said "child may hate spiders because they fear them." I said "If you hate somebody, you will never fear him". Don't you see differences?
http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/shame ? LGBT's agents add it there!.. Well, just joke. Don't you read what I write after "And I disagree, that pride is opposite shame."?
Facepalm? Why?

You may hate a 300 pound bodybuilder for taking a dump on your lawn every morning.
You may also fear that 300 pound bodybuilder will crush your skull if you try to do anything about it.
'Nuff said.
Edit: Hate and fear are nearly never exclusive of one another.

Too weak argument.
Edit. As I said - hate works like "fight", fear like "fight or run". If you'll run, you'll not fight.

is that from pop-psychology.com? Any credible scientific source on that?
And I disagree, that pride is opposite shame.
shame (noun)
the state of having lost the esteem of others

pride (noun)
a feeling that you respect yourself and deserve to be respected by other people

Just because pride is result of something, well, heroic
I hope I don't offend you but "just because" you only seem to know one meaning of certain English words doesn't mean others have to limit their vocabulary to your restrained and limited view of the language or the world.
I don't feel anything negative to LGB's (Yep, I don't like T's, because i think, that they are weak cowards)
And I think that you have no idea what you are talking about and that if you want to know how brave they are, you should put on a dress, some makeup and high heels and go about your day and see how you like it. And I think that if you have to endure what they go through for 10 mn, you will cry for your Mommy.
Not to mention it's like saying people who have Parkinson's are weak for looking to science to help them with their condition...
But even I dislike this "LGBT prides", because it like "Hey look at us, we are gays, you have to respect us".
Nope. You dislike it because you are a homophobe who thinks there is such a thing as "acting like a man"

You're literally attacking his vocabulary for being limited while defending your own limited vocabulary which you seem to make a point of identifying as limited in your own post. Good god. How can this NOT be satire? What makes it worse is that he seems (at first glance) to be a non-native speaker whereas you seem to be one, or at least more well-versed. This is elementary level bullying. x_x
Not to mention you don't seem to understand that an antonym needs to work in the logic of chaotic evil vs lawful good and not chaotic evil vs neutral.
I swear, when people get into politics all else goes out the window. In this case it seems to be English, compassion, and civility. I don't know if you're just enraged and unable to think straight, or really closed minded, but I'd recommend trying to go about this in a calmer fashion. Your little pattern of "No u" in extra words is only going to lead you to more disagreements with no resolutions or even compromise, and probably a lot of headaches that you really don't need.

Are you being serious? I was merely replying to his premise about the definition of pride, shame and homophobia, with definitions. How is that attacking him?
If he doesn't know English well enough, he shouldn't go around making broad statements on what words mean and the way others should use them. I was neither insulting nor attacking him. Just disagreeing with arguments.

But can I ask "where's curvy month pride"? :P
EDIT: I meant "where's curvy pride month", of course. I shouldn't try to crack jokes when half-asleep. :(

It's this awesome time of year again!
June marks the LGBTQ Pride Month all over the world. Many LGBTQ people wait all year for this one month, the streets get painted with rainbows, motivational queer and trans speakers share their stories, and we are all reminded how far we've come for LGBTQ-rights and how much more we have to fight to be treated fairly. =3
