a simple hack would be to add /search?page=999 on the thread url like what is implemented in the lootboy thread.

I don't think it was removed. I still have a "Last" button on threads to go to the last page. I think the OP just wants the button on the top of the page so that they don't have to scroll down to the bottom after opening a thread.
Edit: I think there may have been one at some point on the main giveaway page or for the giveaways listed on a users profile and maybe one of those is the one that was removed because I do remember reading about not having one somewhere because of something to do with the server.
Edit 2: The Change Log for Feb 3 2015 says "Last button will appear for results with 100 pages or less, instead of the previous 50 pages or less.", but that has been changed because I just clicked the button in a thread with 444 pages and it went to the last page.

Maybe you already know that, but just in case... There is already a kind of "last" button to reach the most recent comment of a thread.

As the title says, would be nice to have page numbering both on top and bottom of a thread, or at least "last" button; the reason is simple : there are many threads with multiple pages, which update frequently, and maybe some of us read that thread regularly, and would be nice to be able to read only last page/few pages without having to scroll down.
What do you think?
