To my liver, i was, maybe rightfully so because of my drinking, worried about it for some time, which i couldn't check for way more then a year, because you know, finances, but also a bit of fear.
While sometimes i also had periods i was also taking a few glasses during normal days, more over i was one of those weekend binge drinkers (and don't think thats any better then drinking a few each day), playing TF2 and just having my 90's retro dance music on.

Never judge anyone doing so, to each their own and we all got our reasons, but i wish i was more educated and warned 20 years ago, you might think even small amounts won't matter much and while that offcourse also differs per person and heck even studies say small amounts are good while others will say small amounts are bad.
But don't forget in the end you are basically just giving poison to yourself, if anyone just reading it, don't put yourself to it, even if you got problems, stress it might help short term, but long terms effects will be alot more problematic for you, atleast inform yourself about it.

Yesterday i had my echo done and it looked the same as a couple of years ago, though my blood values showed my liver had to work a little extra, but while it might be different for each person there is a good chance on a full recovery if i just stop completely, and i been doing so for 15 weeks and no desire to go back to it (and thankfully for me personally i don't have these urges others might get).

Getting some wellfare and a jobcoach hopefully that will be able to help me out, although the moment i had an appointment her mother passed away so it's probably take another couple of weeks.

Posted a little reply here to give a small idea on what my drinking habit was, if anyone is interested.
https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/AlfFqA5

Also did you know? The liver just doesn't filter out poison, it handles the melatonine (natural hormone that makes you sleep), filters out stress, and probably alot more, so be gentle with it. :)

Not much, but hey it's something. https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/rkUng/som-soul-of-mask

Happy save your liver 15 weeks badge.

I was never drinking alcohol with a very few exceptions, now I do regularly since 2012 when my surgeries were and since then I have some hematocrit or what value low in my blood and doctors suggest quality red wine, so since that, I drink regularly 1dl each Sunday, lol.

Thanks.

Yeah oh i read so many studies saying a small amount is good, small amount is bad. But offcourse in the end it will Always also differ for each person, i always compare it to people that are lactose intolerant, some will just react more badly to alcohol then others and for some it might help them.

Not sure what a hematocrit is, but hope nothing too serious, wish you the best.

it is the red blood cells in your blood which responsible for delivering oxygen, well, wasn't too low anyway but weekly 1dl red wine fixed it, no effect on my liver tho, my blood tested every second month since 2008:-p

Thanks, well while for most that's hard, for me it wasn't at all, thankfully i just had that craving less and less, same for sugars, a few weeks later i also cut that down, from a soda bottle a day now drinking lemonade syrup with less sugar (totally sugar free cost a heck of alot more) and water and tea, and less candy, potato chips.
I'd want to eat even more healthier like nuts, biological fruits but that's also just too expensive right now.
And that's a reason why poor people tend to get overweight, have health problems because the unhealthy/sugar things are often cheapest.
I am a bit into spirituality, and i wonder if it has anything to do with it, some inner transformation or something, regardless i'm on the good way. :)

Hmm, yeah, I guess. Over here, you can get an apple for around 15 cents if you go to the right shops. Vegetables and fruit isn't that expensive here. Potato chips are 5-6€/kg at best while apples are 1€/kg at worst. How much are different fruits over there then?

I don't know about conversions to weight, but 1 lays (expensive brand) is 2 euro, so 3 might be 6 euro for 1 kg?
But we also got budget chips for 79 cents, all depends on what you go for, lidl probably has cheaper too.
Dunno the price of apples, but i said biological, you will definiitely notice a difference, just look at normal tomatoes, here they are mostly water, or bananas going brown after 2 days, also just normal strawberries going for 3-5 euro. A bag of nuts is 2.50, and walnuts or cashew will easily go to 3-5 euro.
And you can't just eat apples alone, too much fruit is too much sugars too (especially with bananas).
Best if you could just had your own llittle greenhouse and grow your own stuff.

Good/healthy food don't need to be expensive.

If possible, buy vegetables and fruits direct from farmers. If bio or no it will raise the quality extremly and the price only a bit. And it is nearly all the time worth the price they take for it.
Cook by yourself, that is the biggest part where you can save money. Not a bit. I would say you can save 80% of the expenses with that and the result is always healthier as the buyed microwave food, chips and whatever.
Collect nuts and other stuff by yourself -if allowed in your country and if it give none owned/used trees-.

In germany you have as example
mundraub.org (people post there trees and such ones that they don't use and other people can have then the apples, nuts and so on if they collect them by themself and not sell them)
foodsharing.de (a great site and working in other countries too, people offer food before they go into a vacation, because it will be not more ok till they are back or they want switch of the fridge, as examples, and you can have them for free at different "meeting points"/private made meetings).

I use such sites with, only, good results if i give something or recieve something.
If you live in a bigger city your chances are higher then in a small town. If you are mobile it is easier as when you have only a bycycle.
So i am more at the bottom range but got a lot with it. Pestos, Honey, Tea, different Sweets and and and. Normaly i bring them a package of sweets as a thanks (you get females and childs with it :-D) and save in the end a lot of money and they are happy to get something back.
When i give something i get normaly nothing. So don't calculate to get something. It's very uncommon/rare.

Atm i live with parents they control what gets bought, but even with appliances, my mother doesn't even want a blender in her kitchen, so making certain stuff with that already gets ruled out.

Germany is alot bigger, people might have bigger grounds around their houses to have such trees, bushes, fruit, nuts etc. you even got massive forests.
Alot of people here have bricked gardens the size of a stamp, and our government is slowly killing farms one by one, plus in the whole left side with amsterdam, rotterdam, utrecht etc that whole region doesn't have much green at all. there is more in the east side, but that's just too far to go by bike.

As to the sites you mentioned maybe we have those, but i never heard of any of them, maybe a dutch person reading along, might know.

Öhm... i nearly never need a blender for cooking :-P

mundraub.org is difficultier at bigger cities but not impossible.

You can search without a problem at the german foodsharing site for the NL one or with a search in the browser :o)
I am nearly 100% sure that your country will have it too.

Oh and before i forget it.
Brown bananas are still ok.
You can make with nearly complete brown ones, without problems, milchshakes or breaded bananas.
You need only a egg, flour, bread breadcrumbs for the outer parts and inside honey. Very fast made in a pan, maybe 3 min..
I got ALL my gf with it and none of them known it before and all don't expected a good taste.
Its good at the morning before go to work/out of the house too. Fast, warm, fruit sugar and honey give a bit power.

Depends on what you make, but like soups, natural sauces instead of a package (that have alot of salt), then you'd need one.
And milkshakes... you need something to mash. :p

I just never heard of it, but then again i also never really looked.

If its not too hard, we got bread, put them in a mixture of milk/cinnamon or something, then put them in a bread, but that never worked out well for me, not great at making pancakes either.

Potatoes, 3 different carrot types (that is the reason for the different color of all), kohlrabies, bacon, 2 sausages + salt and pepper.
Thats it.
Done from me a few days ago. The Potatoes from a farmer of my village, the rest from a normal store.
I had food for 3 days (7 plates all in all) and paid, by higher quality stuff, around 5€ for all.

Sure it took one hour to clean the vegetables, cut it and all that -i do such stuff mostly slowly and not in a hectic/stressful way, you can do it much faster- and around 1h electr. to cook it but that are peanuts for such a meal. Trust me :o)

And the best at cooking soups, you don't need to look often on it only from time to time check if enough water is inside and nothing burn ;o)

I don't know about conversions to weight, but 1 lays (expensive brand) is 2 euro, so 3 might be 6 euro for 1 kg?

A large pack of Lay's is 220g in Europe, so it'll be around 8.5€ per kg then.

Dunno the price of apples, but i said biological, you will definiitely notice a difference, just look at normal tomatoes, here they are mostly water, or bananas going brown after 2 days, also just normal strawberries going for 3-5 euro.

Ah, you meant "biological" as in "organic"? If so, I mean... then your point kinda falls apart since you're talking about how unhealthy food is cheaper, so poverty can lead to weight problems, but poor people should never go for organic foods. There's a reason we have GMOs. Actually, that's the whole reason we have GMOs. There's preservatives in them, so that's why you can have bananas for around a week if stored properly, while organic bananas will go off very quickly. Also, if a banana goes brown, it's still good to eat. It's just a visual difference and it'll also be softer.
Considering where you live, you need to keep an eye on when strawberries are in season. If you're on a budget, then you shouldn't buy berries that aren't in season or are just really expensive.

And you can't just eat apples alone, too much fruit is too much sugars too (especially with bananas).

Yeah, but you also can't just eat potato chips alone. I thought we were talking about snacks, not actual proper meals. But if we are, then it's even easier.

Buy 400g of the cheapest potatoes, 100g of cheap onions, 200g of cheap carrots and 100-200g of the cheapest meat available. Fry 'em up and you have food for the entire day. Over here, this would cost around 1.5€. Depends on where you buy the produce, of course. Usually I'd recommend you go to the local market, not an actual grocery store. There you'll get quality produce at a cheaper price since sellers are local and their products are sold directly.

If 0.50€ per meal is too much, then I don't know what isn't too much. 270-320g meals, 3 times a day. At the same time you'll pay
1.5-2.5€ for the same amount of potato chips, which is less varied and unhealthier.

As for nuts... I mean, that'll be tougher. But you can get those fats from other sources as well.

We both live on easy mode when it comes to food. It's cheap, it's plentiful and healthy living's ridiculously cheap.

No 325gr lays are 2euro, and again we got way cheaper brands and cheaper stores, one doesn't have to just buy lays.

Still stuff like normal tomatoes are also full of just water which isn't what real fruit/vegetables should be, same for mandarins, and you will have people saying how all those presevatives aren't that healthy either.
I am not saying cheap (unhealthy) fruit leads to people being overweight etc, fruit is just a small portion of a balanced food diet, you can't live on apples or whatever alone, for example nuts are expensive, basically anything without Sugars, even gluten is just more expensive (and someone with a gluten allergy can't do nothing about it but also just has to pay the price for it).
Strawberries used to be cheap but not when it's 3-5 euro.
I keep saying this to others too, with prices barely decreasing anymore we will get that point when a bread will cost 5 euro.

What you described might be a case for you but that just doesn't fly for alot of countries, you won't find even meat for 1.5 euro here (also because they don't sell in those quanties and don't think about single living people, while there are so many people single it's a bit ridiculous), cheapest packages you get is 3 euro, chicken used to be the poor men's meat, but that became ridciously expensive too, now minced meat or shoarma is the cheapest you get.

There are also just many studies.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/nov/29/kis-junk-food-dont-blame-parents

And that's also true if you can get frites, coke and a burger for 3 euro at a burger king, heck i'd go to if it was closer by.

Of course. Didn't know you guys had such large quantities. I thought PepsiCo's 220g strategy was still a thing, though that was their stance in 2013, so it seems things have changed.

Still stuff like normal tomatoes are also full of just water which isn't what real fruit should be, and you will have people saying how all those presevatives aren't that healthy either.

Yeah, there are people who think GMOs are unhealthy. They tend to fall under the anti-vaxxer type of insanity. Sure, there have been examples of issues. But the scientific consensus has been for a long time that they're not posing a greater threat than organic food would.
As to the taste... I mean, that's life? No one's ordering you to buy tomatoes. Without those GMOs and preservatives, tomatoes just wouldn't be an option. Right now it's either below average tasting tomatoes or no tomatoes at all. We have spices as well. Eastern and Northern Europeans tend to use salt and other spices when eating tomatoes alone. Though, tomatoes are usually a raw ingredient for meals. Just like you're not meant to eat potatoes just by themselves.

I am not saying unhealthy fruit leads to people being overweight etc, fruit is just a small portion of a balanced food diet, you can't live on apples or whatever alone, for example nuts are expensive, basically anything without Sugars, even gluten is just more expensive.

Yes, that's why you need a balanced diet. There's no end-all food that'll cover all your needs. There's no organic produce that doesn't have sugar. Like nuts, which you claim have no sugars are actually around 7% sugar and they're also fatty as fuck. You can rack up a massive calorie count when eating nuts.

That's why you buy a little bit of everything you need. You don't just eat carrots solely, but you also add around 4-5 different ingredients to the mix.

Strawberries used to be cheap but not when it's 3-5 euro.

Strawberries aren't even in season yet. They will be in June/July. And then you will have to buy them from actual sellers directly in a local market, not buy them at a grocery store.

What you described might be a case for you but that just doesn't fly for alot of countries, you won't find even meat for 1.5 euro, cheapest packages you get is 3 euro, chicken used to be the poor men's meat, but that became ridciously expensive too, now minced meat is the cheapest you get.

No farm will sell their product in packages when selling directly. You're talking of grocery stores, I'm guessing. The worst source to get your meat. Not only will it be way older, it'll also be more expensive and the packaging will mean that you have to buy certain quantities. And like with any product, in a market, you can still get expensive stuff. It's up to you to actually find those good prices. Over here, you can pay 3.6€/kg for pork chop, but you can also easily pay 6€+ for it. It's all unpackaged, so you choose the amount you buy. So, buy 300g of pork chop and preserve what you don't use. Markets are a pretty great place to get cheap produce and meat. I only use grocery stores to get milk, eggs, bread and other such smaller items that are known to not make the store much money.

But if you can't be bothered to visit the market, then buy a substitute to meat. Buy a cheap brand of canned beans. Issue's resolved once again. Get to know your local market and get a feel for what you want and what you can make. I don't know of any country in Europe where you can't live on a small budget (small for your country) and not live from it when talking about food.

There are also just many studies.
https://www.euractiv.com/section/economy-jobs/interview/professor-there-is-a-link-between-poverty-and-unhealthy-diets/
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/nov/29/kis-junk-food-dont-blame-parents

You've linked two articles. One an opinion piece and the other saying that it's not just pricing, but also knowledge and skills at foodmaking.
These are not scientific studies and neither acknowledges actual facts here. That people would make their own food and that the meals they reference are also ones that are uneconomical thanks to their true price.

Mind you, it's not like a small budget will grant you access to all types of food. But it's not supposed to and that's never been my point. But I will never understand how boiled potatoes and a small amount of a meat substance will be more expensive than junk food in someone's eyes. A single cheeseburger will cost around the same as a full budget meal that you can make yourself. You guys make 122% more money on average than us, yet your food prices are 50-70% higher on average, with only a few items actually reaching the 120% mark. Though, I was wrong on one thing. Potatoes seem to be pretty overpriced for you over there. I'd supplement that for things like rice then, which is cheaper for you guys than us.

Tomatoes are raised, at least in the Netherlands, spain and italy, mostly, in conservatories ok hanging from the ceiling in pots with rock wool. They never have the roots in normal dirt/ground.
They make that in germany too but not in such a high quantity.

And that you taste then by the result of, very cheap, tasteless water tomatoes.

To be honest i don't buy vegetables from that countries. I prefer to pay a few cents more and buy the stuff from producers that are much closer to me. I don't like that the food is transported so far -if we have the same in germany- and the quality, by the same price, can't be the same because the transport must be paid too.

german pineapples are not possible as example but carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and so on are without a problem possible to get from here around, maybe 300km transport too when you buy in a very cheap store but not a complete world travel for the food to reach the customer.

All it takes is just 1 lightbulb moment, maybe it will just reach yours eventually too. :)

Yeah and also when you are still 20 you think nothing will happen when you get older, then you can drink like there is no tommorow, don't even need the exercize but once you read 30-40 then you already start to notice things just don't go by itself anymore and you need some movement. I don't even want to think how it really all feels when you are even get older. :p

Pushups are so boring i do tend to procrastinate, i used to have carpet in the room so i could lay down more softly, now i got a wooden floor and it feels hard (i am skinny and no fat to cushion things, so i do feel that).

I'm in my late 20's but I totally get you and don't want to think about getting any older.

Well if you are skinny you don't need to worry a lot, you are probably healthy :D I was doing sit ups on my bed for my comfort don't know how effective it is.

Well hope you had it checked atleast that's it all food related (I mean don't know what you eat offcourse).
Anything is always better then nothing, what you can do is add extra's to it, like some small weights (or find something that weighs something) same as push ups, eventually let your legs/feet f.e be resting on something that's like 50cm heigh and then do pushups.
Best sign is if it burns a little. ;)

Being skinny doesn't always mean healthier, while people that don't eat alot also can get a bit of overweight, but usually it's when you are overweight and eat alot it gets unhealthy, but skinny people can also eat alot like that but they just don't gain any weight. :)

I checked it personally, it's beer :) Thank you for your concern.

I always thought the burn is not a good sign but learnt that it is a feeling for improvement. I'll start to do push ups when I feel ready and let me share the info that I read on newspaper but don't trust lol. It said if you can do at least 40 push ups you have 85% less chance to have and heart attack than who can't.

Yeah it's one of the worst things, but I don't know which one is worse lol. Let's drink water and stay healthy. I'm drunk btw so if my words doesn't make any sense sorry in advance lol.

I had brain tumor when I was 7 and got hcv virus during one of my many hospitalizations. Not sure when, probably from blood transfusion. I was on the list for interferon treatment since I was young but when I turn 18 (age of majority in Poland) they had to transfer me on list for adults so it started over. I got my treatment when I was 22 in 2014. I was lucky enough that it was the most gentle and shortest option of it (only 6 months) and that first round worked.

Good to hear your liver is not getting worse. I have been little concerned about the future of my liver because of a medication I have to take but it is nothing to worry about now. Stay strong and don't go back to drinking.

I dunno how long you been taking it, maybe just ask for an echo in between?

Often though we people expect just expect the worse (me too also in this case) and then it just turns out fine. :)

Thanks, and definitely wont ever get back.

I haven't touched alcohol in 2 years due to being on pain meds. I don't miss it. I can drink now if i want to, but havent been in a hurry to. But... Before that, I wasn't a big drinker anyway. People are like "you're lying, you're Irish." It's true that there is a horrible drinking culture here. You don't drink, or you drink very little, some people don't respect that and try to force it. Needless to say, I cut those people out of my life mostly because they're not real friends. Alcohol just doesn't agree with me really. Under normal circumstances, I go out with friends and have a few social drinks. I don't think its necessary to get awesified to enjoy a night out.

Good luck with sticking to it. Getting your liver healthy again is important, but sounds like you're determined to get there. :)

Yeah wasn't there some irish comedian or tv host or something that died (due too much alcohol) awhile ago, i believe he also said i just drink (so much) because i am Irish or something?

Hope you are never in hurry to get back, as you said you don't need alcohol to enjoy a good time, it might be frowned upon by friends (and maybe in Ireland even more if you don't drink booze), but if they dont understand (or with whatever situation) then usually they just aren't true good friends to have around anyway.

Thank you, and definitely am. :)

Oh its not a purely Irish thing. Its just a stereotype haha. It's just as bad in Sweden, Germany and other countries I've visited. They have horrible drinking cultures too. Also, the UK is pretty bad.

I don't think all countries are the same, but Americans tend to call me a liar when I say I'm Irish and don't really care for alcohol. Hahaha

Hey Shannon :)
How about you and your recovery from the surgery? Do you feel better now?

Getting there. Still have a lump on my back that's causing issues, but I'm not in the same amount of pain that i was in before the surgery. I'm only taking the odd mild pain med if its bad. Mostly medication free though :)
It's probably going to take a couple of months to heal properly because of CSF leak. Doc said this one is a waiting game because another surgery could make it worse. They will only do it if it doesn't fix itself.

Who would have thought it would be easy getting there? ;)
Oh well, that sounds not too good with your CSF leak (I had to look it up), but I'm so happy for you that the pain is getting better and you don't always need the meds.
You're pretty strong, Shannon, and I really hope there will be no need for a 2nd surgery. Fingers crossed!

I'm sending you healing vibes, and just try to stay positive no matter what, since this will support your recovery! <3

Booze is as useless as smokes. Let gaming be your only vice. At least that money reaches creative folks instead of b@stards slowly killing you with their well-packaged poison.

Yeah and governments not helping either doing anything about it because they would lose their taxes on it, their answer is to just increases taxes even.

Though some people (especially chinese people) tend to have died from gaming too long, so that's not Always healthy too… ;)

Pretty much anything can become a vice or an addiction if you're self-indulgent. At least select the ones which won't impair bodily functions. But you're right, since some people may even starve themselves to death over a Starcraft session. To each their own, I guess.

My maybe only hobby is gaming, but yeah i keep that in limits too, i'd never even once played through 4:00 in the morning or something.
Hobbies should be fun, not someone's whole life. Got enough games, a good pc to even try streaming but i am afraid it just would ruin all the fun out of the hobby.

I know what you mean. Gaming's my hobby as well and I'm perfectly fine with just playing and writing about it. No streaming for me either.
