Thank you, although honestly, are games still being made with CryEngine 3 with tools like unity and unreal around? Sep 2012 wonder if this is still relevant or if the software even got updated since 2012.

I don't understand how Packt select their free learning books. 13 year old book is out-of-date by at least 10 years.
It seems CryEngine is now version 5.6. I had hope for it a couple of year ago, but with a 5% royalty and only the first $5K annual are free - it is simply to expensive.
A search on SteamDB shows only 105 games uses CryEngine - e.g. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II vs 54K for Unity, and 16K for Unreal
