A perfectly viable and proven treatment, assuming your locale won't lock you up for a victim-less crime.

My brother has the same headaches as I do, but doesn't have the luxury of being on disability. MJ works for my bro, whereas I'm on semi-perm disability and have time available to take life slowly. He has a mixed-race family in a Tea Party neighborhood, so can't stop to wait a headache out or wait for a pill to take effect.

I have never seen a reason for MJ to be banned when I look at the things I can easily kill myself or others with, often with plausible deniability. For what it's worth, I don't think any substance should be banned for consenting adults.

It may help with some things, but when people go on about how it fucking cures cancer, the argument that it's medicine loses a lot of its effectiveness.

Agreed. People claim EVERYTHING is a cure for cancer if the FDA refuses to investigate their claims, and even then, many claim the FDA is covering it up for the benefit of Big Pharma. (Not that Big Pharma doesn't have its hands in the FDA, it does.)

On that subject, Agave nectar is not a cure for anything except for boredom. It's basically cactus juice. It isn't a new discovery, either. You can get it dirt cheap from Amazon.com in regular Snapple-esque bottles. Tequila is made from Agave nectar, and tequila made from 100% Agave (no other sweeteners or alcohol contributions) tastes best.

Many people seem to lack the ability to gather facts, independent studies, information etc before making judgements & opinions, it doesn't help anyone without doing so.

Peoples hostility also never ceases to amaze me. People want to share their opinions (based on?) yet they also feel the need to throw insults, shows very little social skills & immaturity. People will never listen to whatever point/opinion that person is trying to make if they are abusing someone at the same time. So to those kind of people, maybe think a little bit next time before running your mouths.

Anyway little "rant" over. Lets continue with the scientific facts & studies, which is what I base my opinions on. Not sure what some other people are basing theirs on. Marijuana has also been used as a medicine for thousands of years, its only rather recently a bunch or corrupt politicians make it illegal.

I'm sorry, but I just do not find YouTube videos or marijuana.com to be reliable, unbiased sources on this subject, nor do I consider you to be one. I never said it might not be medicinal, but if it truly did all the shit people says it does, you wouldn't be smoking it for a cure. "Take three long puffs twice a day" is not a medical prescription. Cannabis is a lot less fun when it's in pill form, though, isn't it?

Face palm seriously now, did you not see all the other information and studies I posted? I only posted 3 YT videos which you seem to have directed all your focus on (???). My mind boggles as to how you ignored all the other studies.
The information and facts are there, I'm not going to hold your hand and guide you through each one. You clearly don't wish to challenge what you think you already know by claiming all that information to be biased which is laughable statement and you clearly haven't even read through or studied half the information I posted in a hour, instead probably glancing at it and since you don't understand it or it doesn't fit in with what you think you know, you shrug it off as incorrect and biased. I've been studying cannabis for 15years, I didn't learn and prove the facts in 10minutes of reading.

I never stated how it should be taken as medicine, it depends on what you are using it for. Oil is generally the most effective way or edibles. For things such as depression and mental health problems oil is good too as well as smoking or even better vaporizing (smokeless) because the only harmful thing about smoking it is the fact you are inhaling burnt plant matter. The synthetic THC pills if that is what you are referring to are not good, you need a combination of THC and CBD and there is no need to make a synthetic version when the plant provides it all, that is big pharma's way of profiting of nature.

Did I say I didn't see them? No. Did I say it wasn't potentially medicinal? I believe I said the precise opposite. But my mind boggles that you think posting clearly biased or unreliable sources improved the quality of your post. Less is more, in some instances. You didn't need to spam so many links, all you had to do was find the best. Posting so many poor links degrades the quality of your statement even more than the inherent bias in your name suggests.

When a person of strong intellect is confronted with a problem which calls for the use of reasoning faculties, they keep their poise and attempt to reach a solution by garnering facts bearing upon the question. On the other hand, those who are immature, when confronted by the same problem, are overwhelmed. The latter must be led like a bunch

If you had presented an structured argument with points instead of a raw unformated list of c/p'ed links without any context or cohesion amongst them I would have taken your opinion into consideration and we could have had a good debate. Jus' sayin', Medical Marijuana isn't supposed to be used to combat minor issues like migraines. While cannabis may be a "healthier" drug, it still has very adverse effects on those who smoke it, especially if you were to do it every time you had a headache. It's actual use as a medicine would be in those who have serious chronic, or even terminal, illnesses that don't let them do anything anyways, thus improving their quality of life by easing the pain that they have.

Honestly, I know that this is pointless to argue with somebody who has 420 written in their name, but there's really no reason to make an excuse for smoking cannabis over things that people have been using perfectly functional practical medicine to aid them with, rather than just smoking it for fun and to relax.

Yup, though believe it or not 200 mg is actually fairly common too. Truth be told, I thought the most common was 200 and 400 mg. If I recall correctly, you can even pick up 800 mg as well. In any case, I appreciate the clarification.

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know. In the Pharmacy I'm at I don't recall ever having 200mg ones. But things might vary from a country to another. If it was 200mg a couple of them would definitely be a suitable dosage. I think therapeutical range for pain was somewhere around 200 to 600 (or was it 400?) I will look it up tomorrow morning.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just looked it up because I'm curious at this point. According to the FDA, in the United States the OTC limit for ibuprofen is 200. In Canada it's 400. I never really thought about it before but it explains why my ibuprofen from the U.S is 200 mg and when I'm in Canada it's 400 mg. In any case, not sure what it is in other countries, but that explains that.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm. I've been selling 600mg ones here regularly without medical prescription. I'll look up the legislation when I get to work. But it's rather interesting how the regulations vary so much from one country to another, that's why saying the dosage is a good thing.

Cheers!

So I did some research and asked my boss today and here we seldom give 200mg ibuprofen. There are some pediatric formulations (Dalsy and other syrups) which come with that dosage and a bunch of publicitary stuff. But as generic and OTC dosages 600mg is the most handled one. Then some people get 400mg too, but way more scarcerly.

Not really. I'm talking now from the top of my head but the two most common presentations 400 and 600 mg will be more than enough to appease the pain unless he's dying. One each 6/8h if the pain persists and avoiding taking more than 4 daily.

I might have commited a mistake because my handbook is not with me atm.

For headaches and general pains, I'm fine, I take these things that melt on the tongue (and are apparently 200mg of ibuprofen). The problem comes for anything major. Had to go to the dentist for a wisdom tooth removal about two months back and my gums were swollen around it, so I needed to take some penicillin to treat that first. Boy, that was fucking fun. I couldn't swallow the capsules, so I had to fucking chew on them. The taste alone was bad enough, but the knowledge that I was eating the shit that grows on oranges was so much worse. >.< So many near pukings... I hate having knowledge sometimes.

I'm not talking about some weak generic yellow mustard. I'm thinking of the stone ground, long boil varieties you find in a good deli. They're called brown or spicy brown in the states, but the actual heat level is hit-or-miss, usually miss, due to misleading advertising. You may have to do some searching to find a real spicy mustard that isn't just dyed for a uniform color. They consider German-style mustard to be very spicy, so consider those. Or just hit Amazon.com like I do.

When referring to a musty flavor, I may be calling a flavor aspect by something incorrect. It's the aspect which many mustards share with those white button mushrooms they put on pizzas in the states. Maybe you know what I'm thinking of now, even if I may have the wrong word in mind. I don't really know.

Get a cloth or towel, let it be in cold water for some time. Clip it or somehow roll it on your head and enjoy the numbness. Take two towels to comfortably switch them out when one gets dry or is losing the effect.

Rest your head on a pillow and watch some TV or Youtube, something engaging. It can take your mind off of the headache so you won't notice it that much. Also it rests your body and allows it to relax. Slow down blood pressure. Less blood gets pumped, less reaction from the brain etc. Calms everything down.

Oh and you can rub your earlobes, I remember it helping. Also quite an active way to reduce a headache. Something about the circulation and nerves being connected in the brain so you can basically control them from certain points. I don't remember the details but I remember it working on occasions.

Also simple medicine like Aspirin to numb yourself is fair game.

It can be done in 5 easy steps!

  1. Find a sharp knife, a surgical scalpel or razor blade work well.

  2. Wash knife with vodka and/or submerge in boiling water for a while.

  3. Find a clean, smooth surface, approximately 2x1meters (or a bit bigger if your a fatty). Wash with vodka as well.

  4. Lay yourself on the surface you have just prepared, place cutting tool in easy range and drink remaining vodka.

  5. Make an incision accross the front of your neck, not far below your chin. Continue to deepen with short, forceful strokes until head rolls free. Allow a few moments for the effects to take place.

Congratulations you have solved your headache problem! Your head will never hurt again!

The pressure point below and slightly behind the ear, where there is no bone, is a real thing. There's a nerve there that can be massaged. Some headaches are just a variation on what causes a leg to hurt when it's coming out of a state of tingling, commonly referred to as 'my leg fell asleep.'

Sex can make a headache much worse for most headaches. The work required is far too great for such a small dose of Dopamine and Ocytocin.

Solubilized ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and naproxen sodium are my holy trinity.

Try to identify what kind of headache you have. Pain behind the eyes? Does it feel more like a muscle ache? Maybe a neck pain? Does the pain radiate? Does it become worse with sound or with every heartbeat? What happens to the pain when you hum loudly?

For me, pain behind the eyes or pain that reacts to sound and light responds well to about 220 mg naproxen sodium. Sore muscle-types are knocked out with 400-600 mg ibuprofen, preferably solubilized as it works faster. Acetaminophen takes care of the joint pain types, like a radiating neck pain. Medicinal response may be stronger/weaker/different for some people, and should be safely experimented with until you learn what works best for you. The lowest effective dose of the most effective treatment should be your target.

For non-pharmaceutical relief, it again depends on what kind of headache. My most frequent is what I call nerve pains, which I attribute to over-stimulation, typically the eyes/ears. This is when one eye feels like I've eaten too much ice cream too quickly, or it can feel like my top row of teeth are being pushed/pulled on very hard. For these, reduce sound and light sources to reduce the pain. If I feel one coming on, I may turn off all light sources except for my PC monitor and reduce its brightness/contrast to the lowest that I can comfortably use, and read/watch rather than game. Chamomile (Sleepytime) tea also helps, as it has a muscle relaxant effect. The effect is slight, but noticeable.

Consider looking at the foods you eat. Some people are simply prone to headaches, and have trigger foods. Salty foods are a trigger for most. Think about what you've eaten during the 24 hours before your most recent headache.

Weather can cause pressure-related headaches, in the forehead, jaw, cheeks, basically it's a sinus pressure headache. Draining the sinuses with some ephedrine or pseudo-ephedrine, such as Benadryl or Sudafed, may be enough to relieve the pressure. If it isn't, a little caffeine will dilate capillaries and may be enough to give some pain relief.

Look into personal habits. Drinking poorly distilled alcohol will give most people headaches due to impurities. Smoking cigarettes causes increased blood pressure due to nicotine constricting capillaries. Scratching your head a lot (WASH YOUR HAIR!), excessive cleaning of the ear canals (some wax is needed for health), oral hygiene (not brushing? read about root canals and go see a dentist asap), many things affect your likelihood of having a headache on any given day.

Stress in your life can raise your heart rate and your blood pressure, which can cause headaches.

Look into migraine headaches online. If they sound like you, ask your doctor about them for a more accurate diagnosis. Migraines usually begin with puberty and get worse as you age, until well into your 40s-50s, if they ever stop. Most with migraines cannot treat them effectively with non-narcotic methods and end up with a prescription for life. Your doctor would then need to experiment with various medications to find the one which works best for you with the least bothersome side effects.

Black coffee with with a bit lemon juice. :3
Isn't as disgusting as it may sound.
Normally my headache is gone after a few minutes, I guess the caffeine helps getting the lemon stuff and coffee stuff faster into your body.

The best possible solution is to not to listen any homebred solutions and go to your physician. There is plethora things that can cause headaches and the only person who won't kill you comes with letters "M.D." on their business card.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "the only person who won't kill you comes with letters "M.D." on their business card.". That's a bit extreme when it comes to headaches, which can be relieved in many ways, especially through nonprescription NSAIDs like ibuprofin or aspirin. That being said, if you do experience frequent headaches a trip to the doctor is definitely advisable. A number of things can cause frequent headaches and your doctor can certainly help you pinpoint, and treat, the cause.

While would agree with you most of the time a temporal headache isolated in time is generally not worrrying enough to grant a visit to the doctor.

Also my business card has no M.D. on them and I consider myself qualified enough to give medical advice, also I haven't killed anyone yet either.

I just assumed that if someone is asking strangers on the Internet how to get rid of their headaches it's serious enough to warrant a visit to a doctor. For all we know it could be brain tumor, and they are advised to eat garlic and drink water.

That's true, there was not enough information to discard anything. I jumped into conclusions too early and assumed it was something punctual.
