After looking at expensive games which are not discounted during the MEGA sales, I could imagine a strong line-up like this one:

  • April 19: Borderlands 3 ✅
  • April 26: Football Manager 2022
  • June 2: Total War: WARHAMMER II
  • June 9: Battlefield™ 2042

Battlefield 2042 is probably out of the picture, is it even on Epic at all? Edit: after a search i saw it was avaliable there. I have a hard time imagining they would give it free, when the sales numbers are probably still high.

The game is rated very poorly by both critics and the players, so it's definitely not out of the question that it could be offered at one point as free on the EGS or others things such as Twitch Prime etc. etc. especially if the sales for the game have come to a crawl. TBH it may be extremely beneficial for EA to give it away on the EGS. Every copy of a game that the EGS gives away for free Epic pays the devs for. So every account that gets free games is a big help to paying the devs and growing the EGS.

I think it says "three treasures" on the top, so they were initially planning to giveaway the Yakuza bundle.

no its E not the chinese character three.
top is "E宝往事" , E宝 is a cute nick name some of the chinese gamers created, they call Epic E宝, pinyin is E bao, and E stands and short for Epic, 宝 means baby or treasure, guess google choosed the second one, but it can also used as babe, for example you can call your lovely wife 宝 or 宝宝 or 宝贝.

But the good part is, we got three games. Yay!

The E宝往事 on the top is just the title of the giveaway, it has been the same as the last clue image, it translates to "Epic Game's past" (This part is not related to the actual giveaway)
The words on the bottom is the actual clue, I've posted a seperate comment below to explain that.

往事 means past story, or old things or once upon a time.
This pic is from official account of Epic's chinese social media, they will release more clues for next games.
bottom is "他们烧的 实在太多了" means they burn too much, of course burn too much money, that is the clue. But I have no idea what the game is.

in general they only giveaway indie games of little value or games with lots of dlcs like Borderlands 3 or with in-game purchases such as NBA 2k21 or GTA 5 just because they have to earn on it. so i don't count on No Man Sky at all

I'm chinese, next week's game is most likely Max Payne 3, here is why:
According to this week's clue image, it says on the bottom: "They've burned up too much money" (This is a common saying in China which means that something costed a lot to make), in this case, Max Payne 3 is easily one of the biggest budget games with 105 Million spent on making it.
Another post by the official Chinese Epic Games earlier this week said that after Borderlands 3, the 3 other games given away in the next 3 weeks will not be games that are on sale on the EGS, Max Payne 3 matched that description.

Yakuza games are possible since they are not on EGS yet, but none of them are as high budget as Max Payne 3.

I don't know. There's enough steam reviews complaining about it for me to say it must be valid. But I also only played through the remasters versions of 1 and 2 and beat them (not 100% achievements, 56/65 for #1 and 49/53 for #2), so if it was bad, it must not have been enough for me to put it down. However, it is possible that I looked into fixes on PCGamingWiki.

That said, if someone is interested in the game and hadn't bought it, it is at the very least worth trying to see if they'll have issues. Buying on steam has always and continues to be an option.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It seems that it only applies to some people then. And i agreed with what you said; the game is free anyway, so it doesnt hurt to claim it, and if people think that they like it and want to get the original to avoid the bugs, they can always buy it later.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, child. You are a lucky one.

Imagine the worst time you ever had with Origin, Steam, EGS... Nope. Never had that much trouble.

Well, for starters, to play a game, you needed to be logged in to Windows Live. If the connection of Steam fails, you can still play the game offline. Not with Windows Live, you needed to be logged in constantly. And it worked badly on its BEST days. On its bad days, it just didn't work.

It didn't add ANYTHING to a game. I buy a game on Steam, hey, it's a game I bought in Steam and has steamworks, that never bother me. Same with a game I bought in GOG, EGS, whatever. But Windows Live was with games bought offline, and never added anything. It was just a bother. Also, it didn't update manually, so you had to search for the windows live and install it yourself, that also installed a bunch of things that you never wanted. Do you know all patches that steam downloads and you don't notice, till it asks you to reset (or just do it later). You had to download with windows live ingame using GFWL INDIVIDUALLY one after the other, what a torture that was, especially with the awful slow progress bars.

After it went offline, so it didn't work ever again, some games STILL REQUIRED IT, so if you wanted to legally buy the single-player game you bought, well, you were out of luck.

Saved games were encripted (same with gamepass, by the way) and you couldn't copy them anywhere. Worse, since the encription sucked, multiple times your saved games were lost. Well, if a game corrupts your saved games, it really sucks. If a DRM that adds NOTHING to the game corrupts your saved, you want to send a hurricane to MIcrosoft's headquarters.

"You cannot save your game without logging in to Games for Windows Live."

"Games for Windows Live is being updated. Closing your game now."

I JUST WANT TO PLAY THIS PHYSICAL GAME I BOUGHT!

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/fallout-3-new-content-adventures-in-gfwl And the examples, problems, were everywhere, everyday.

quijote3000 put it quit nicely already. All in all DRM is for countering pirating. Of course pirates cracked gfwl in about three seconds. If you decided to pirate a game with gfwl, you just patched it not to work and game worked instantly without any performance losses or glitches with save files or whatever.

If you had the official version you where bound to have a non working or poorly working game... horrible .. just horrible... No words to describe the loathing it instilled in people. I have a feeling implementation of GFWL was not conceived by any rational thinking person.

Yeah it's an impressive guess, I feel like everyone should own Doom at this point though.. It's always dirt cheap

All the more reason to give it away. They still get the positive press associated with giving away a AAA game without having to worry about it impacting sales.

Dude, that's incredible reasoning, I hope you're right.
Not because I want Doom but because of that deduction.

There's is a high probability for that it's a game of Take-Two. The pattern is similar to May 2020 with GTA V, Civilization VI and Borderland's Handsome Collection.

Hopefully, we get all 4 games: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/15435/Wolfenstein_Alt_History_Collection/
But we cannot be sure of that.

Would be cool, then I could refund my New Colossus on Steam :)

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is on sale:
https://store.epicgames.com/p/wolfenstein-the-old-blood

And it is part of that collection, so probably we will only get Wolfenstein: The New Order, not on sale:

What Wolfenstein? The number clue is clearly Doom. And I would prefer Doom collection (1+Eternal) to Wolfenstein collection, to be honest

The number clue is Doom, but it is actually an easter egg in Wolfenstein.

Goddamn, I never took a closer look at that number.

I always think that those of epic fail should fix the launcher and improve the services and the features instead of giving away games to actract poor peoples. people don't buy from epic anyway because it sucks

I can buy wherever I want. If it is cheaper...
I don't need trading cards and other annoying Steam-spam

i like achievements, the remote play and workshop and i don't like epic beacuse more games don't have them. it doesn't even have a forum and a good chat which is fundamental for a platform

same i don't even collect the free games and i don't feel buying games from Epic is good as there is a much higher chance to get it free soon rather than later

But not all the games are using their launcher. I bought a few Uplay Games from them and it uses the Uplay Launcher.

Ubisoft games i buy them directly from their store. Ubisoft also put the 10$/€ coupon. Epic fail will never see a dime from me

Slim pickings lately. I guess they can't keep giving away several recent games for free every week forever... who knew??

If I'm not mistaken since the start it generally is one game a week, unless the game is rated 18 and up, then another game is also given away so that people of all ages could get something for free each week. There are occasional exceptions where 3 games were given away, like on March 3rd and May 12th. The Christmas holiday is also another one of the exceptions to the norm, as there's an every day promo happening from around the middle of December to around New Years.

You're most likely right about the number of games. I seem to recall a couple of times when there were more than one but I don't follow it enough to know when. Still, the quality of the games has been downhill. It's not really sustainable when you're the ONLY one giving games away.

Beggars can't be choosers, although I would've liked it a little more if Epic paired it along The New Colossus. I guess it's a difference after two epic (no pun intended, or maybe lol) giveaways like BL3 and the Bioshock Trilogy.
