I just looked up the steam page and it says,

The Typhon Hunter DLC does not contain a single player campaign, it has three extremely basic VR escape rooms (maybe 15 minutes content per room, probably less) with only a small connection to the main game. And then it has again an extremely basic prop hunt multiplayer game (with no players), which you'll get bored off in less than 30 minutes when not going for achievements.
I love the main game and even liked Mooncrash more than I thought I would, but the Typhon Hunter DLC is beyond forgettable. It's kind of nice to be in the Prey universe in VR but it's a very short and small experience.

There are two theories online, based on a hint posted by the official account of Epic on Chinese social media. One is a game with a camera (Life Is Strange Remastered, Fatal Frame Project Zero, Dead Rising 4, etc.). The other is simply Borderlands 3.

I think that's only part of the guessing game - the original picture only have the hex code for camera in Chinese - I think they put LiS's picture with the doubting blob to show thinking/investigating

There is actually a third theory based on a big Fall Guys announcement scheduled for the 16th and a new Fortnite Update on the 17th. Both of these are presumed to be introducing a Fall Guys/Fortnite crossover. That would strongly suggest the mystery Epic freebie on the 18th will be Fall Guys.

Most freebies have launched on Epic as a freebie, without being in the storefront first. So that wouldn't be a workable indicator to go off of.
That said, googling it, it looks as though there was a teaser for this week's game, which most people thought would be Borderlands 3 based off the teaser image, while some instead guessed it as being for No Man's Sky. Thus, with this freebie having been proven to in fact be Borderlands 3, there isn't actually any basis anymore for expecting No Man's Sky as an Epic freebie (unless of course there's a more recent info tidbit that I wasn't able to google out).

in general they only giveaway indie games of little value or games with lots of dlcs like borderlands 3 or with in-game purchases such as nba 2k21 or GTA 5 just because they have to earn on it
