Hi SG,

You might remember that 5 months ago we had a discussion about scripts and add-ons used to automatically join giveaways, and how they are against the rules.

Unfortunately, a large number of users continued to use those scripts, and we needed to suspend 1,614 users today. The suspensions are based on activity from the past week. For now, those users have received a short suspension as a reminder to disable their scripts. However, future suspensions will be more severe, or permanent.

Hopefully this will help to keep the community fair for everyone. Enjoy your week!

Totally. I think I might have to rewatch the movie later today.
It's my favourite of their movies on the Funny / Stupid chart :D

Rip autojoin, I got absolute trash games from the website anyway

This guys are amazing

To be honest. I could not give two shits if my account gets perma banned. I have given away so many goodish games on the site, and all I got out of was complete garbage. Wasn't like I was a leecher on the site. My total given away was over 1500$ while my take in was somewhere around 1300. All I got from the site was shitty games that just sit in my library anyway.

Good work!!
If you just look the number, it may be a lot of people. But that compared to the total users of SG, it's really not so much (ratio).
I think there may be more people still use it and not being caught this time.
This should be a big warning to them, only if they HAVE time to read the announcement!

Nice tool to update my blacklist and whitelist.
Got a couple of whitelisted people with a permanent ban as well. I'm shocked, my whitelist isnt that big.

I have two GA winners that show up as suspended for 3 more days. Should I request new winners or just wait for those two to claim their stuff?

REROLL!

Thanks for the push, "Suspended or Inappropriate Behavior" was actually one of the drop-down options for reasons of requesting a new winner.

They have 7 days to activate a gift.

If the giveaway creator doesn't want them to have the games then he has all the rights to ask for a reroll.

Suspended users can enter only in suspensions section of SG. So they can't activate their wins. And it's ground for re-roll. There is nothing in rules if someone is suspended for 3 days, 6 days or 3 weeks. So it's treated in the same way.

Also when you're suspended you can't win games, as you're withdrawn from valid entrants list.

So they can't activate their wins.

If you win a GA and get suspended for 3 days you will still have 4 more days to activate the game.

No point in treating rule breakers differently. What if someone would be suspended for 6 days, and they won't log in on 7th day? What's the point in forcing not-breaking-rules GA creator to wait so long for re-roll and getting their CV? It's rule breakers that should be punished by not getting game, not GA creators with having to wait to get received status and CV.

5 months and this is the first week of suspensions? Man... why so long?

Repeat offenders shouldn't be given change #2.

I'm assuming data collection and analytics, improving recognition algorithm, snacking, deciding on the initial ban length, strike.

I think the reason for not giving a permanent ban directly is that you do not want to lose users.

Permalink

Why don't you want to lose users who disregard the rules? One warning/suspension should be enough.

Why would they not want to lose users? User count us probably in the high tens of thousands if not more so a few thousand banned would be unnoticable. True, the site has a few ads and banners here and there but I don't think management profits from it so again...no reason to keep rule-breakers just for the sake of having more active users.
