Hi, In the past, I used to do it through the browser console and search for the app id in SteamDB, but later I discovered the SteamDB extension, which among the functions it has one of them adds a link to SteamDB corresponding to the game or package you tried to activate, regardless if the key was already activated or not

The thing is, there are not only bots, there are also what we call "silent ungrateful ninjas", which are real people, that are as intelligent as other people and can resolve the riddles as well as anybody else (without the gratitude).
So people who want to unload keys and don't care who take it can do it here, people who want to give it to real grateful people can do it there.

Not like the ninjas are always active. Just like how I managed to get a key 5 minutes after, there are bound to be times when someone else will get just as lucky. And for these people that a "taken" message is needed.
Now that I think about it, posts advocating people to move to the Anti-ninja thread are abundant in this thread. Like with every 5 "taken" message there's 1 "please go to this thread instead".

In past 2 years I was lucky to grab maybe 2-3 games here, but it was not worth the hassle. However I do check the thread, because at times folks post a batch of DLC codes, and then the chances are much better. But, generally, yes, use the other thread, unless you are getting rid of such junk, that you don't want to bother, IMO.
