I was in a similar situation with a laptop I had years back. It was a defective model, but it wasn't discovered until later. The thing overheated most of its life, which was almost 10 years. I had to counter the problems for all those years. Fan controls, notebook coolers, software tweaking.
When it finally hit the stage you are on, I put this tiny, stripped down copy of Windows XP on it and it didn't overheat as much because it didn't have to do much. I pulled almost every feature. I ended up stripping everything out of the laptop, that I could and opened it all up. It was the only thing that would counter the overheating enough to do normal things with it. I even used a desk fan, constantly blowing air on it and I plugged it into a monitor and set it upside down, with the bottom all open.
It actually held up for a while, at that stage. A power surge took it out. I'm not sure how much longer it would have gone. It was weak because the power surge should not have been able to kill it, but I think it would have gone a few more months.
If you end up not winning that computer, I would join some of the earn money sites and do all the big money grabs, like the free credit score stuff (Some are worth like $4 for like 30 seconds of your time. Make a couple hundred in a month, if you work a little at it (It is easier to make money right off, then it is later when you do all the big offers). Then just get a decent laptop, on sale, using Slickdeals. I think Swagbucks pays the best. I make $40 or so a month, right now, basically spending 15 minutes a day at it. If I started right now and hit all the big money offers, I could do a couple hundred in a month, easy. I just do it for side cash, to buy games with. You should be able to quickly make enough for a cheap laptop to cover you until you go back to work.

Awesome post! Swagbucks is indeed great but unfortunately requires a mobile phone for verification or else a snail mail process...

I only had to do it once, plus you can skip this on many sites, if you just write them and tell them you don't have a phone or can't get a text for some reason. I can't get a cell signal where I am (Surrounded by higher ground and rocks on all sides) and I never feel like waiting, so I typically will just email places like that and just ask for manual verification. If you talk to them and tell them the truth, most places are pretty decent.

The text says "I'm a gamer and this is my current PC. Things to note: The busted webcam, the loss of my "E" key (as well as the messed up keys from years of use), and my cookie sheet "heat sink". There is a mistake on your picture it should have said "I want Maingear ) i looked to their facebook main page to find this.
