Black Mesa Question

Hello.
Can someone explain me why black mesa has a price now? And its ultra high imo. It was free for a long time and I haven even finished it. I am not into game newses so thats why I am asking.

There is a free version and a paid one. The free one is the one you download from they're website or moddb but it's non steam. The paid version has multiplayer, workshop content, and it's on steam
