I wanna know if i need a full or mid tower. (If someone could also tell me how big a full tower is exactly in comparison to a dell XPS 410 That would be great) Whatever case I'm getting will use the fans that come with it. Here is what will be put into it that i can say for sure that may affect this.

ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer Motherboard
Asus GTX 970

Full or mid?

Mid

From what I've seen, you're usually okay with a mid tower (my friend has almost the exact same hardware as you do and uses a mid tower, though it is on the larger side). For reference, my full tower case is about 24in x 10in x 22in (and I in no way use all of that space).

So I don't think a full tower is needed, but it will definitely help if you plan on putting extra hardware in at some point, and it also helps keep your components cooler (or at least mine does).

If you want to use watercooling later you better take a full tower

My friend blew $3k on a brand new gaming desktop with water cooling (he put it all together himself, bought parts separately so it wasn't a pre-built thing). His water cooling broke within the first month of use and destroyed almost everything else inside his computer. Then, for some reason, his warranties didn't cover the damage and the company he bought the water cooling system from would only replace the cooling system. So in the end he lost about $2k in brand new hardware.

You have a BTX case, the only thing that will fit in there is a BTX motherboard. It was iirc something Dell did as a proprietary move to ensure you had to upgrade through them or their vendor instead of just using something like NewEgg.

Your motherboard is an ATX form factor board, as long as the case supports ATX you are fine. I generally prefer full towers as they offer more space between elements that produce heat and allow for greater cooling through added fans or watercooling if you wish to go that route.

BTX? Are you talking about my 410? I just mentioned that so i could visualize how big the case would be. Im gonna be buying a new case mid or tall.

Yeah the 410 was a BTX proprietary case made for Dell and Gateway I believe, some other companies may have used or use it now as well.

IIRC they are the same in size unless you get into the Pico and Nano BTX stuff.

You need this tower or this tower, obviously.

Unfortunately, haven't worked with non-laptops in nearly a decade, so that's all I've got to offer :P

This video should be able to tell you what you need. It talks about which motherboard sizes the different towers support, and the advantages & disadvantages of larger towers
