I have used it in the past, but cannot answer these questions out of the top of my head.
I do have to ask though... Why do you want to use fraps? What are you recording? If they are games, are they through steam?
Fraps is quite a bad program iirc

I know of people who use fraps only for the FPS counter. I think that's just crazy. There are actually a lot of people who do not know about the fact that you can make steam show the FPS in a corner (in high contrast or not) in any steam game. That is why I was asking these questions.
Also, if he is just wanting to record, I would definitely suggest OBS instead of fraps. Yes, it will be a tad harder to use, but it will be better.
But yes, if it is too much effort to figure out how to use OBS, then I suppose Fraps is the best choice. It is really easy to use, but I just dislike the program. Too resource heavy. And for some reason it only outputs huuuuuuuuuuuuge files.

Just google Fraps free and it should pop up. Or just check their site. In the free version you can only record for 30 seconds I think.
Should be an option in the program. Haven't used it in a long time (I'm now using bandicam, works way better for me and it uses less resources), so not sure anymore where.

2) Steam has an option in it's in-game settings to display FPS. If that's all you are looking for, I would recommend against running another program while gaming (steam's overlay is running anyways)

ummmm fraps? smb still use it? omg
Steam has built-in fps counter, no need any third party software for it
for capturing video in games use any software which support nvidia video decoder ( for example shadow play) or if u have amd card just use any software with amd vce support(plays.tv (raptr), msi afterburner, obs, e.t.c.)

It's not really the speed that is worrysome nowadays, but the picture quality. NVENC's compression in gaming can sometimes be seen with the naked eye: it is "grainy". This is why most people use h.264 (AVC), no matter their hardware, because it is still a codec that was made to be fast and look good—made by people whose job is to make it fast and look good, unlike AMD and NVidia, who just made their codecs so they could say they have one.

Are you looking to record, or just for fps display? I use Dxtory to record, myself.
