Same here.
May I suggest you a few things that might help you keep your backlog smaller

  • The monthly PAGYWOSG event have been a great help to me. This month's event can be found here.
  • I recently joined Backlog Assassins Extraordinaire. It has similar event but I don't participate in them. However, they make it very easy to view and manage your backlog.
  • Also, I recently applied to the Playing Appreciated. This, I believe, will force me to play any wins from the group at least. They recently opened applications again. You may apply here.

Also, I guess this goes without saying, but try to enter only the games you are interested in. At least that is what I do, and I think that helps.

Playing Matters is much better.

PA have shady guys in the group and don't care to kick them because "they don't done something bad on sg".

I don't care.
I am happy when the stats are higher but i don't search and activate all free stuff for +1 and i would never buy games for that.

It's a, nice, sideeffect but thats it.

I feel the same why, but believe most people care about +1 too much.

just curious, I see people with over 3000 games on their steam and I wonder if they just farm on cheap games like these and they becomes +1 after some time.

I'm just gonna talk for myself because I imagine my case isn't representative of everyone with a bunch of games. As someone who has recently reached 4k games in his steam account I wasn't aiming for that number to grow that much, in fact I kinda promised myself to stop impulsively buying so many games back when I reached 3k a few years ago, it's just that I see a lot of stuff that looks like I'd enjoy playing from the trailer and then I end up not having enough time or will to actually play them. Those large backlogs with impressive numbers are many times just a source of anxiety for their owners, a problem that got out of hand long ago.

I guess many of us started early, when every game was a +1 and there were plenty of bundle sites around, some offering very cheap games. Those days are over now though, and DIG is really the only major holdout (IG isn't as cheap). It was easy to get a huge library for not a whole lot of money back then.

Exactly. I started out when limited games weren't even a thing. Every game gave +1, the average quality of games was a lot higher than today and sites like Groupees were still good. I stopped caring about adding new +1 games a long time ago. But my library was already quite big when all these things happened.

I am still in a Indiegala group buy thing, though. Haven't canceled it yet, because it really doesn't cost much money. It's basically the only thing that's left from my collector days. But I am really lazy when it comes to activating those games. I actually started activating them some months ago, and some of the gift links I still haden't used were 1.5 years old. ^^

Some are probably planning to sell their accounts. Yes, it's against ToS and accounts can be banned.

Some already are, but most aren't. I bought a lot of ones that even had trading cards (some years back).

I didn't know a game could had trading cards while still being limited. aren't steam card a way of steam to show they vetted the game?

No they can't. But some games on DIG are not limited. I'm not sure which games and if they are still in stock. I think they changed the rules regarding trading cards and limiting games a few years back, because of abuse from devs.

The most will NEVER get a +1
Because DIG is a shady shop, with mostly crap games, that get sold, before they reach the DIG store, in shady ru shops.

Nearly none of that games get enough sold on steam, partly because of the unrealistic high price on steam - that animate people to buy such bundles on DIG because "so much worth and i get it for such a low price".

In the end it is "buy crap, get crap".

Sometimes DIG has actually good games in their bundles... almost certainly without the publisher's consent.
In fact, they have been caught rebundling Humble freebies (some keys showed "Humble giveaway" when activated) often in the past.

yeah I don't have intention to buy them as they seem shovelware, but it was curious to why people would buy them. the games are very bad, so my idea was that perhaps they do it because it will boost their library number in some ways

if as you seem to you want to waste money only getting more +1 getting bundles from humble or fanatical are better ways to go

Games don't get +1 from 'becoming approved', games get +1 from selling enough copies and making enough revenue directly through the Steam store. Key sales do not count for that purpose.
