Hello everyone! I just created my first steamgifts giveaway:)

I just had a question that i hope someone could kindly answer. I have created a giveaway for a game, and it is a key. How do i ensure that the key i gift is redeemed in the winning account itself?

I mean, the winner could redeem the key in another account and for example tell me that the key is fake or something like that.

Could someone please help me? thank you very much :)

Well, check their account for the game. They have 7 days to activate it. If they have not after 7 days, send in a support ticket

But he said if he activates the game on a different account and claim the key is duped.

yes, that is true. but what if he redeems it on another account and tells me the key is not working or something. what proof do i have to show that the key is legit?

If he activates it on another account, you can check it simply by activating game on steam with that same key and it should say that this key has already been activated.

for that you can only ask support, maybe somebody has the access to some kind of database?..

And anyway, it's easy to check if the product with that key is in your library or in your friend's library, I guess....

If you are not sure that you have legit key - dont make a giveaway of it. But if that should happen, just write to support and all they can do - ban that guy from SG.

This is pointless.

I could gift a perfectly legit key and encounter an asshole as he described....

The problem would be a lying winner.

lol plenty of what ifs :D. let's consider the case that my key is legit and i know it is.

If you 'know' that it is legit, you must have a good reason. Provide this reason (for example, screenshot of your Amazon receipt) to support and they'll take care of it after the 7 days are over.
If you traded for the key, you don't know it's legit and you shouldn't give it away. (trading keys is always risky)

What if I obtained the key from a close friend? He could provide me the proofs then.

i think we are nearing the most practical solution, although not fool-proof, but close

This is sad. The question is why do some people do this? What do they gain from it?

Answered to such wonder in a comment of mine...

You can't. Send it in chat is probably safer (and take screenshots) then if they don't activate it / activate on an alt account, report them.

If they claim fake / duplicate key, I don't know what you could do. Ask support?

Even if you send it by mail, you have still the proof you sent that mail with the timestamp... and whoever from the support can try entering that code and see that is perfectly valid...

I am ashamed ppl actually do this anyway... You're winning a free game, take it and shut up.. NO.. they must give troubles even in such situation...

It is indeed unfortunate. I am just trying to take all the precautions i can should such an eventuality arise

The only reason I see they could try to do this, is to enter multiple giveaway of the same game (for example winning the game more times)... But If I really wanted to do this and had 2 account (supposing both have more than 100$ value of games), I had subscribed steamgifts 2 times....

Contacting support seems like the best choice, the more proof you can include (like where the key was gotten from, possibly a screenshot (blocking/editing out any other keys or other private info) will make it look far less likely that you're the one in fault as well.

I hope it will never happen to me anyway.. I'd be pissed off.. Especially because I can't afford donating often and I would feel pretty much offended...

We recommend not sending keys through e-mail for public giveaways. Instead, send them an e-mail asking them to contact you through Steam to receive it. This allows you to request a re-roll if something goes wrong. Usually, the only problem you'll encounter is someone trying to use it to trade or give to someone else. In such cases, they usually get a suspension and nothing bad happens to you. If they get upset and try to give you 'not received' feedback for some reason, we can change that manually, though it can take a while sometimes. In the worst-case scenario where they try to activate it on another account and claim it's used or something, you usually know whether it should be used or not. In those cases, I recommend contacting the retailer from which you purchased the game and tell them it's been used and you need a new one, and their support should revoke the original one and issue you a new one eventually, allowing you to complete the process and foiling any attempt on their part to scam you out of your key. Please try to save any e-mails or other correspondence with the winner, key retailers, or any other relevant parties, as you can present these to us in support in the worst case to help get things sorted out more quickly and easily.
