Would it be possible to create a steam account for SG+ and we can add that account as a friend and leave our profile set for friends only? This way we won't have to set our profile to public every week for a sync.

That's... Actually a good idea.
I keep my profile public, personally, so I wouldn't use it. Still a good idea, if it's possible.
One problem is the friend list limit, thought.

It possible, yes. It would include DLCs too, but this means you would have to use unofficial ways which could break.

You can't see what DLC your friends own. It wouldn't change anything in that regard.

Yes, you can.

Funny, I just had a look at a couple of my friend's profiles and I don't see any of the DLC I know they own.

Unless you're talking about going to every DLC individual store page and looking at the "friends who own this game" page. But that's not a viable option to sync from those individual pages.

If there's any other way to see what DLC your friend's have, please enlighten me.

Not sure what SG+ has to do with sync... I think you mean just "SG".

Or if you'd want it as a feature for SG+, I highly doubt it'll be possible since the site itself needs the sync and SG+ can't possibly redirect that, if it could then there would be a security issue since it's no longer server side scripting, it's client sided and you can just edit it, basically.

But anyway, if that would be implemented in the site, there's a problem... I think there's that limit with number of friends... which would automatically require alot more accounts... or it would require investment in those accounts in order to increase their friendlimit.

No. that way I can't stalk other users and report them for not activating their wins.

+1

If they implemented this, they could eliminate a lot of issues though. It'd require a rewrite of a lot of things and as such, adding in the ability to block people from entering if they already have the game would be possible. Along with that they could also finally add most DLC and could even make it so if x wins the game and the game doesn't show up within a week then a ticket is created to inform support.

You could even appoint a new group of people to verify these to alleviate the load on support.

All of these things can be done with the current system. People already need to make their profile public and sync once a week. You don't get any more information from your friends list of games as you do from strangers with public profiles.

You do get more information if someone is on your friends.

DLC information is not public, I can tell you that there are two people on my friends who own "The Doctor Who Cloned Me" DLC for Duke Nukem Forever. This DLC is not shown on the game list and the only way to view this information, would be grabbing it from the store page where it states "x friends already own this game".

As such, not all of those things can be done with the current system. Sure, you could implement the block people from entering, but why bother if it only filters half the things as DLC wouldn't be included?

Yeah, I know about that but I was thinking about the game's list.

So, the server would have to go to every single DLC store page on Steam to sync what users have on their profiles? I don't think that would work very well.

As for the block people from entering, it's already implemented since the beginning of times. That's the main reason why you have to sync once a week.

Edit: Well, madjoki has shown a way to get the info using Steam API that wouldn't be too taxing on the server's bandwidth. There's still the issue about the number of friends you can have though.
