Exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it). Delete all of the files in this folder except: The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo) Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

Try setting some other browser as default and try clicking again. If it works open Chrome and make it default browser again.
If Chrome doesn't want to open links even after that then you need to reinstall it. You could just download the chrome installer and do the installation right away, though I'd recommend using this, deleting chrome with it and then install chrome.

Also be sure to update Steam to the latest version. Forgot to say that I can open the links from chat.

I have the same problem - none of the external links opens. Not sure, but it seems like a security fix(or bug) in the latest Chrome update.

Had that issue yesterday on FF but thought it was some add-on/extension that did it, since I disabled them, restarted the browser, enabled them and then it worked just fine.

Try downloading Chrome Canary. It is the newest version of chrome. I love it, everything works in it!
And yeah, ite doesn't replace your old Chrome, no worries :)

Not sure if it is a possibility. All I do is highlight it, copy the link, and open it in a new tab. Or 'Shift+Click'.

Try re-installing chrome, or test it with another browser.

I have the same issue at times. All I do is keep chrome open in advance and then double click the link.
Edit: Ok, your issue is different. Just re-install chrome.

Try setting another browser as default (preferably not one using webkit) just to narrow down whether the issue is with Steam or the browser.

Then report back whether anything changed.

Also if i click on the google chrome it wont open if i rightclick on it and use a bookmark it works

this sounds like your current install of chrome is somehow screwed.
Try to uninstall it and install it again.
