==== UPDATE
I found more.
There are some LinkedIn profiles attached. They are shown, that they're working for GameTester.
And... If you click on this company... there is a site with ".co" (not .org) address extension.
Looks like some scammers copied and changed a little this site to scam others...

==== DONE:

  • sent a mail to the site owner (.co domain)
  • message sent over their facebook page
  • sent message over their original platform

== UPDATE2:

  • they responded and know about this case from now.
  • scammer mirror-site was taken down.

Look like work with 12$ for playing on one game. Looks interesting - but this is a SCAM.

Thanks for the PSA! Though the promised earnings already sound too good to be true and should make people be wary.

If you go on any site and instead of linking with your steam account it asks you for login and password for your steam account you know it is 100% scam.

4 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There is only one safe address where you can log in: https://store.steampowered.com/
If you're logged here - and any other site asks for login credentials again = something is wrong.

I decided to create this thread because I saw this announcement... and some users asked it's creator (on his profile) about contact.
So = more hijacked accounts in next weeks?

Other than this opening a frame inside the window, it's nicely done..
I saw one the other day that opened a new window, but had the security cert as an image.. I'll see if I can find the site later on today when I'm less busy checking monthly stats

= 120-180$ for 5h work AND on top of it you get the games for free...

That info is the only thing you need to know it is fake BEFORE you try to login

And sure it give greedy and/or stupid people that think such stuff is possible...

It's same as "You win an AAA game" or "You're won AWP Asimov!".
Still, many people give them their credentials... and will lose access to their account...

You would be surprised by the amount of ppl that do fall for such scams, many ppl when they see "free" or easy money their minds somehow go BLANK and they fall for it.

True. It's nearky the same with these Prince from Nigeria Emails where they want to give you a huge amount of money. If it wouldn't work, they wouldn't try it.
But for these Spam-Emails I have a solution: https://www.rescam.org/
This Bot answers these Spam-Emails and wastes their time, sadly it is currently offline.

Online sites that pay for small tasks rarely pay more than $ 20 per month ...
And it takes a lot of time to accumulate such a sum in this way.

So a website offering $18 for 30 minutes, and up to $180 a day to play 5 hours of video games ... of course it's a scam.

Rofl, the English in that message is terrible too. Usually a good sign that it's a scam if the being too good to be true isn't enough. lol

Why would any testing site even require your steam info...that is a big red flag right there.
I've joined a few and this will only matter based on the platform you are required to test on...for a specific project.
Honestly I don't even sign into steam on my browser anymore...its all app or nothing.

It's more reasonable than you're thinking:

  • games are for steam platform
  • if you give someone unverified a key... this key will quickly land on g2a-like
  • communication, bug reports etc.

sorry but again i cant explain myself other than that... who is that desperate to fail for shit like that?

this made me laugh:

I must say, it's pretty sophisticated for a Steam fishing attempt. They faked a "new window" popup to look like a steam browser window. They even implemented proper localisation.

I saw better implementation. You cannot select a language here etc.
The only way this scam method is better from previous ones:

  • free game
  • high paid rates for playing

This is old method (sometime better implemented). This = cannot work with bad credentials. Previously used = can return error and you (as user) can correct.

Video only in polish language but this method I presented here. Maybe I will add captions?

I've notified someone from the Malwarebytes team so hopefully they can add least mark it till it's been taken down. I'm sure once that's done it will spread to other security teams to let them flag it as well.

I remember seeing someone mentioned about another scam where they try to trick you into logging in to your Steam account on some spoofed ESL website under the pretense of getting you to join their esports team.
