GTX 970 or R9 390

R9 390

I was in your shoes a month ago and I chose the 970 and I must say I haven't regretted my decision at all. I picked a Gainward Phantom because I wanted a really quiet GPU and based on what I've read on reviews, the 970 is better temperature wise also eats less power. So that's one good point for the 970, on the other hand the 390 has way more VRAM. Overall I think you can't really go wrong with any of those, so a 390 will do the job as well, but I don't think the 8GB VRAM is going to mean anything on 1080p, only in higher resolutions.

If I get the 970 it comes with Metal Gear Solid V

Although the 390 will run better on 1440p

Ughhhh, decisions

390 fs, the vram is worth it in 1440p setups and sometimes even at 1080P.

I would suggest you take a look at the newest dx12 benchmarks. As already stated the cards are similar in performance, but dx12 will probably give a better boost to AMD cards as they are currently suffering from higher driver overhead.

I'm currently struggling with the same problem of choosing a card and generally both models aren't bad and offer similar performance, but at the same time both designs have some drawbacks :/

Every is saying 970 has better temps, when they are pretty equal, on stock 970 is cooler by like 1-2 degrees while both cards OCed 390 is cooler by 2 degrees...

I was wondering the same some months ago and in the end I went with GTX970 (G1 Gaming edition from Gigabyte) and I'm satisfied with my choice.
