Should we be able to use emoji?
just throwing it out there: a, e and w and emojis are two different things:
letters (like a, e and w like OP mentioned) are needed for basic (I#m talking about normal) communication and emojis are not.
You can make some complexe textes with letters (understandable by anyone knowing the language of course) but can you do it with emojis so that everybody can understand the meaning? For simple things thats perhaps doable but it's not for complexe topics or discussions

You know... Chrome doesn't show any of the emojis there. When I paste it on gtalk, it shows as a square on my "typing bar", but it shows correctly when I send it. Firefox doesn't show them all. It doesn't show on notepad.
That said, it's not nearly as supported as you say. Many people would have it shown as squares. So, no. And, lol, of course it's not the same as letters. Don't be silly.

You're mixing up the subjects.
- Letters are different than symbols. Not from the point of view of computers. But they're not the same category.
- Those symbols are not letters, but they're WIDELY SUPPORTED by the majority of systems and fonts. So, as I said, maybe when emojis have better support, they could be available everywhere.
Did you know that, for example, Hangouts catches them and transforms them into an icon (coloured and all)? I believe it's to keep supporting them in case people change their fonts. So, contrary to what you think, there would need to be parse as well to ensure support of them regardless of the system that's accessing the website.

That's not how it works. It's vice-verse. If many of people use some feature - it becomes widely supported by the majority of systems. Just because system developers implement it.
I'm not asking steamgifts to support emoji. I'm just asking not to filter it out of text. That's quite different.

Images can't be embedded in the middle of text. And text emoticons... well, first of all - emoji is text too. And second - I believe emoji looks better than a couple of brackets.

If you disable the rendering of characters supported by the Steam client then you'll only break stuff. So it won't happen entirely, never can.

So, today I find out that forum parser cut out all emoji from the text. I mead - we don't have smiles, and it's okay, but emoji symbols are just like all other text, why are they not allowed? Is this on purpose or just a bug?
By the way, to all "No" voters - if this option wins, I'll create another poll to disable on forums letters "a" "e" and "w". And you would have to vote Yes there, or else - you are hypocrites!
