People still use icons and shortcuts? :o

Kidding aside, you can try finding where your icon is located, then right click your shortcut, click "Shortcut", and "Change Icon...". The problem with that is that it is a massive pain in the ass to locate your icons.

Alternatively, just delete the shortcut, and re-create it.

Okay, try this:

  1. Go to your Steam games directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common).
  2. Find the game you wish to create a shortcut for.
  3. Right click the game icon, "create shortcut".
  4. Right click the created shortcut, click properties.
  5. In the "URL" section, type this: steam://rungameid/[game's ID]
  6. To find the game's ID, go to the store page and copy the number part of the URL (in the case of Borderlands 2 for example, it's "49520"
  7. Edit the shortcut's title to your liking.

Do the shortcut icons for those games still actually work and launch the games?

Have you tried deleting one of the icons, then opening your Steam Library, right-clicking the game and choosing "Create Desktop Shortcut"?

If you temporarily change your screen resolution, does anything change with those icons?
