If you could choose, what time period would you have liked to have lived in?

I'd choose either medieval times or maybe the 1940's or 1950's. I don't know why, but things seemed a lot easier back then compared to now.

Sorry. I was rewatching A League of Their Own on tv just now and got the idea for this. Movie always seems to make me feel good.

1620's or so, I would like to discover the world, but sadly its too late for that.

Won't happen. I like the theory that advanced civilizations destroy themselves a few centuries after inventing the transistor...

Personally, as the big computer and video games geek I am... I'm happy being in the current era. If anything, I'd like to take a step in the future rather than the past - Maybe not live there, but have a glance at what's to come.

That time has it advantages and disadvantages.

No potato latkes, no Belgian fries, no ice cream, no Belgian beers, no wine straight from the Golan Heights, no guns and so much more missing. ;-)

But also no terrorists and other extreme nutters. ^^

Holding two degrees in history taken in one of the most beautiful and important universities here in Europe..
I really don't know xD
Being extremely rational stupid and selfish I'd say probably that I would have maybe preferred to be 10-12 years my actual birthday, around 1975, 1970.. in order to benefit from Europe's boom and also to have the chance to see tons of metal concerts, festivals and so on xD
But I'm extremely happy with my age, although I'd have lived in a more beautiful world.
Historically speaking.. it's impossible to choose, I'd love to visit every past and future period and geographical area in the whole world.. but definitely not living in the past or even being born before the '70s.. with all the awesome things we have these years.. possibilities and such..
I'd love to see everything from the earliest times.. even before the homo sapiens sapiens age.. every Ancient civilization from Africa to Asia.. how everything was made and conceived in Europe because of course being northern italian makes me even more interested in my area (specialized in middle-ages history).. but i'd love to see the whole world and meet everyone xD
But living, guys, who would choose those centuries? XD It's a matter in my opinion of choosing from 1950 onwards.. and as I said, I'd go for being born in 1970 or around that year =P

I really sympathize with the 1950's in the US. However, considering about 98% of my lifestyle wouldn't work in that time period (and I'm not even exaggerating), the racial segregation, the much less developed medicine, and the economic crash that was soon to come, it's probably just the novelty that attracts me. The reality is, there's no better time to be alive than now.

The first three pictures show the novelty of it, and the last one is so real that it's almost shocking.

About 1870...
now? Surveillance cameras, infrared sensors, police, guards, farmers' ...
Strict. Do I move to a future where cucumbers can be eaten free of charge?
How many years later?
Oops. It is not good to be discovered by the future people. XD

For me it would be (chronologically):

  • Indus Valley Civilization
  • Pre-Colombian Inca
  • Paris during the Commune years
  • Barcelona during the Second Republic
  • Mid 60s to mid 80s in order to be able to watch my favorite bands live
  • 100 years in the future
  • etc (any time in the far future)

For me, Id probably pick being born around 1950 so I could grow up through the 60s, 70s, and 80s. All my favorite music is from then, my parents tell me so many stories... It sounds like a time period Id have really meshed well with

Have you tried catching up by listening to radio stations playing the music your parents loved when you were young?

Might´ve been the 500´th time CCR played on the radio when i realized i already loved that song cranked up to 11 at the age of 5! ;p

Luckily, yes! So much stuff as it´s also german NDW (New German Wave) songs with picturesque texts such as "two oranges in the hair and a banana on the hip, that´s what Roswitha wore to her coconut dress" sung by a french hottie .... and suddenly you´re expected to drive orderly all the while your struggling not to bust a gut from laughing xD

Why would anyone want to live in a time that lacks technology, sanitation or human rights to name a few?
If anything, i wouldn't mind being able to experience what the past was like without actually living in it, like a time travelling bubble maybe.

As much as I would want to make some different life choices, I believe that all those choices make us what we are today, so it would be difficult to say what i would do differently seeing how things are for me now.

if possible I'd like to see the future, better if far in the future.
