I currently have an "HP X220 Gaming Mouse". It's not bad, not much "gaming" except for the looks, it has 2 side buttons for the thumb (doubling as page up/down) and two buttons below the wheel - these deceived me, as I thought they were programmable, but they just change the DPI on the fly. I keep pushing them accidentally and having to get back to my wanted DPI.

My needs:

  • Durability and reasonable price are my main needs. I don't do eSports nor I play some kind of MMO or PvP game where I'm at the top of the ladder.

My requisites:

  • Wired. I hate wireless input devices.
  • Not more than €50. I don't need some super-low lag exclusive metal mouse $200.
  • Durable. I don't want to change it after one year.

My wishes:

  • Extra buttons. Either programmable through propietary software, or recognizable in-game as "mouse button 5", etc. A couple of extra buttons would be good, 4-5 would be perfect.
  • Not shiny. I know gaming mouses tend to have bizarre spaceship designs; I don't want them to be "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", so no support for Chroma and such is wanted.

Give me a brand and current model and I'll look in local stores of, if there's no other option, Amazon.

I do want a gaming keyboard also around 50€ max but that one I want it with colours. But that's for another post.

Not mandatory giveaway, but here you have. Not mouses, but rats.

Edit:
Thank you so much for all your suggestions! I'll keep waiting for more as I'm not in a real rush to get the new mouse, but once I have enough good choices I'll start shrinking the selection. The gib is still running for 5 more days, and I'm hoping more suggestions (even if the mouse has already been mentioned) will come. Thanks again!

I have had a great experience with my Logitech G502.

  • Reasonably priced (typically about $50 USD or about ~€46 or less on sale, which is often)
  • Custom DPI settings
  • Customizable weight
  • Customizable RGB lighting (can be turned off, too)
  • Comfortable in the hand (at least IMO)

It was recommended to me by a late friend who liked it so much he bought two (one to use at work, too). There's the G502 Hero now, which is just slightly different looks wise. Not sure about functionality though.

This. Actually I don't like the shape, I prefer ergo like Deathadder. But my fiancee got me G502 as a present and I must use it till it's broken, now it's been 5 years and this thing still work normally lol

I was surprised by RedDragon m908 mouse in 2019. It can do anything you may and may not need and costed me almost 10 times cheaper than Razer Naga. It has a lot of rebindable buttons and very handy app.

I've got a deffective device (mouse wheel had an extraneous sound (sound only, nothing else) when I scrolled it fast). I contacted officail store about that and got a new one mouse in 2 weeks. By the way that "deffective" mouse is still in usage and never caused any problems

I consider Razer and Logitech as trash. Used Steel Series for a while till they failed and now currently using Glorious.

I have a Model O and a Model D They only have two side buttons. But there is a Model I with extra buttons which I might actually order in a couple of days to try out since it's cheap in my area.

Speaking of trash - Glorious is the only mouse ever that the primary button failed - and in less than 24 hours after purchase.

if there's no other option, Amazon

I think you'd make a mistake buying online. A mouse is one of the most important input devices and you should compare and experience the feel of it first hand. Go to a big electronics store where they have a few dozen mice on display and take your time to pick the one which suits you best.

It took me more than an hour to pick mine and to my own surprise I ended up not with Razer, Logitech or Steelseries but with this one.

I was never picky, has some M$ and other off brand ones. My last was a semi vertical to avoid wrist problems as I'm getting older.

I just got a thumb trackball two days ago because my wrist was very very early signs of maybe have problems and I was NOT going to chance it.
it's very good quality that I can tell but probably not the best for gaming. However I've heard with the right settings you can play FPS good too.

Do some research.

The only gaming mouse I ever bought is the Logitech g203 and after 6 years is still going strong. Is not much of a looker but has all the features you're looking for.

The Razer Viper 8KHz is a great ultralight wired gaming mouse. This is one of the mice I own and use sometimes depending on what I'm doing. It's currently on sale for under $54(normally $80 on Amazon). As someone who owns a decent amount of gaming keyboards, mice and headsets, mousepads from different companies (Logitech, Razer, Steel Series, Corsair etc.) I'd say that the Razer Viper 8K is one of the best mice vs other brands both wired and wireless.

EDIT

Here's a site that can be quite handy when trying to compare mice. They've currently tested 286 different mice. They've tested tons of the top gaming mice from major companies as well as some lesser known ones and you can see how the Razer Viper 8K stacks up against them.

I've went and linked some of the top gaming mouses from several companies below.

Logitech G502 Hero vs Razer Viper 8K

Logitech G502 X vs Razer Viper 8K

Logitech G903 vs Razer Viper 8K (The G903 is a wireless mouse but I believe it's Logitech's top gaming mouse)

Steelseries Aerox 3 (2022) va Razer Viper 8K

Steelseries Aerox 5 vs Razer Viper 8K

Corsair Nightsword RGB vs Razer Viper 8K

Corsair Dark Core RGB Pro vs Razer Viper 8K

Hyper X Pulsefire Haste vs Razer Viper 8K

Mice with optical switches are the only ones that are gonna have guaranteed durability, otherwise pretty much anything can fail in less than a year (or have issues like double clicking, or inability to hold a click). Unfortunately they're somewhat expensive since the tech is fairly new compared to mechanical switches. Also, technology has advanced enough that there's no real difference with wireless mice compared to wired, besides maybe being more expensive. My advice is to get one with optical switches if you're willing to spend around $50-60

I use a mix of Logitech and Razer mice. I think the Razer DeathAdder V2 should suit you.

Razer Trinity has worked great for me for years. Has 3 different thumb plates to pick from, but there is rgb that can be turned off, but i leave on a slow change from one color to the next.

The promote wireless, but have wired option too. Got mine on sale a few years ago on Amazon.

I've had the Logitech G402 for more than 3 years now, it's still flawless. Never had an issue with it.
It's taken a lot of falls and still rock solid.

I see a lot of suggestions for Logitech mice.
I don't know if it still applies, and I've never used it, but I've seen a lot of comments on a tech forum in my country that if there is any problem under warranty and you let them know, they send you a new one, no further questions and no asking for the broken one.
I've had some with problematic switches on clicks and wheel.
Now I'm on G305 (wireless, and with the basic extra buttons), and it's going really well.

I haven't had any issues with my G502, but had an issue years ago with a more basic mouse. They replaced it, no questions asked, for free. No hassle at all. That experience kept my trust and I have had absolutely zero issue with my current G502 and it's been about 5 years now.

They're not perfect, as no company is, but my experience thus far has been far better than most.

They have understood that like the customers, the company has taken a risk with the switches, and in the end it's very good for their customers. Speaking of company, Logitech has a plus.
I'm sure they can choose or make better ones, but... planned obsolescence, you know...

To me, he's better off getting one that fits his hand and how he wants to hold it along with his needs. Sorry, but sooner or later, he will buy a new one.
