The other day I realized I had never actually played the master quest of OOT before so I did that. Nostalgia caught me and I decided to play MM again too. This made me wonder: Which do you think is better?

In general OOT is considered one of the best games of all times because of the new standard it set for its time which I totally agree with but to be honest I think MM is even better. It's basically an improved OOT to me. The soundtrack as well as all the quests caught me even more, so many side stories that made the whole thing a lot more emotional. The difficulty was higher too. The overall tone was a bit darker which I like as well. One of the best parts was definitely the added game mechanics like masks and their abilities or the different dungeons which needed such genious things like the elegy of emptiness.

In fact I think MM might even be my favorite 3D Zelda game closely followed by OOT and TP (which's darkness was phenomenal).

Would be great if you could explain why you think either game is better.

OOT is what set the president for MM so I will always say OOT. M Mask was pretty much OOT 1.5. People might light it more, but in the end it's OOT that set the standard. MM just expanded upon it.

As much as I prefer a lot of things in MM, there was also a lot to dislike. The time mechanics were really annoying, especially if you didn't have the song to slow it down, the water temple is nowhere near as bad as the great bay temple, including the quest to get into the GB temple, many of the masks were completely useless, and some didn't work outside of 1 specific usage (IE Giant and Fierce Deity masks).
Nonetheless I can't shake the fact that for whatever reason I remember MM more fondly. I'm not sure why, but OoT just doesn't do the same thing for me.

The only thing that bugged me about Majora's Mask when I first played it was that I didn't have an instruction manual and couldn't figure out how to save my game. The first few times I played it, I would play for about half an hour and then get frustrated that I couldn't save. Eventually, I looked online and watched the beginning of a let's play -- problem solved.

Overall, I liked MM better than OoT simply because of the many different angles each character's story could be seen from and experienced. It was actually fun to 100% MM and help all of the different people. OoT was much more linear and had some side quests thrown in, where MM made it fun to take on all the different side quests and really get a feel for each of the characters' individual stories.

I'm going to have to be the one that says what a lot of others are thinking.

Neither. They BOTH sucked.

Would you prefer The Wand of Gamelon?

If by "a lot of others are" you mean "absolutely no one is", then yes.

Trust me. there are a LOT of others out there that don't belong to this site that didn't like either. Now, Wind Waker was an awesome game. That was the last Zelda game I played since I don't own a console anymore.

I've never played a Zelda more recent than LttP, which I never actually finished.

Not a big loss really. Steelbox is nice but breaks the overall visual of the game collection. Besides that it's only a poster and a pin...not worth it in my opinion.

That said, I'll probably pick it up if it doesn't cost that much more and is available in the store hahaha. xD

Only played MM as a child on N64 like 10-12 years ago and back then I didn't like it at all.
I loved OoT though and now as I saw this thread I feel nostalgia coming up inside of me pushing me to play through both of them.

They're both great, OoT is a better game but Majora's has some really creepy stuff that no other Zelda has
