How much of a shooters fan are you?

[T1] To give $2 to Humble Bundle, or to hope that the the game will be discounted to lower than that during a future Steam sale? I'll go with HB, perhaps that will motivate them to bring back the Tier 1 to all future bundles.
[T2] That's a pretty sweet deal considering that these games usually have low discount percentages on Steam, even though they have been around for a few years already.
[T3] Can't say no to paying $2 more for each of these games as an upgrade from T2.
[Have] Forgive Me Father, I couldn't wait for these games to get bundled so I already picked them up.
[Skip] I don't enjoy the genre at all. Will wait until they come up with a more puzzly / strategy / rpg-y bundle.
[T1 is back] Not gonna buy anything this time, but I just came here to say how happy I am that they decided to have a T1 and they even set it to an affordable price.

Some really good games in there such as Nightmare Reaper
But alas I own half of them already so I must pass.

Not a fan of the higher prices overall but given the quality HB's been putting up this year, I'd say it's worth it. Immediately bought as I only own one of these.

[EDIT] While I know I'm going to play these games and (most likely) enjoy them, thinking back $18 is a bit steep. HB's putting out better bundles but also jumping on the price creep train.

Yuh, that 1 game costs me less (regional pricing) if bought directly through Steam. The good old Tier 1 days seem to be gone :/

Yeah, I think Lilly initially had a $1 price tag here and edited that after my comment. That kind of ruined it, haha.
But only one cheap game in tier 1 wasn't rare in the 'good old days', so at least that isn't new.

I don’t own any of these, but I bought a previous boomer shooter bundle and probably only spent like ~2 hours total on all the games, so this one is kind of a hard sell for me.

I cant´t help myself but given what boomer stands for.... the words bigger and boomier sure do sound a bit lewd even worthy to be the title of a porn movie :P.

What does boomer stand for? I've only started hearing 'boomer shooter' lately, and I've been around since the days of the original Doom. Guns go boom, but I'm also thinking slang term for baby boomers, which, yea, that'd be annoying, but I wouldn't put it past someone to start that one up.

These are shooter that look like shooter from the early 90's - back then for the boomer generation. Some also call them Dad Shooter.

Ah I see! Haha the funny thing is that it's Gen X and early millennials that played these games. Atari and pong are more boomer era. I'm insulted! Hahahaha 🤣

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's true, but "Boomer" is a synonym for "old", and that's why it is referenced to the baby boomer generation.
I know the "original" games from the time they were new - I am one of Generation X. :)

Yes i meant the baby boomer generation and this generation is called so because of the amount of people born in that time.

boomier in this context can then be seen as even more fertile and... bigger... i think you understand now what connections my mind made.

My favourite genre (alas I prefer to call it retro shooter). Only own/rebundled 2, rest is wishlisted. Guess can't say no to this. (And we might even see the day when Wrath comes out of early access.)

Thanks for the subs list. Since you seem to buy pretty much every Humble Bundle and check the subs, would you mind for future purchases clicking on the gift link notification first, before revealing the keys?
The fact that you receive ROW keys doesn't mean that everyone else does, and the gift link notifications are the only ones able to give us an indication about which regions do receive locked keys.

I would mind the extra time and work it would take. Basically it's the same reason why I don't provide the list as a table already. With that and keeping key leftover sheets and an account activation log, I already feel like it robs me of too much of my precious time.

win-shift-s and ctrl-v into imgur like https://imgur.com/a/faLoO68 (or any other place one can dump pictures onto – say Discord if one never deletes it there, or any screenshot application with built in uploading) is a sort of quick process.
before that it's just a click on 'gift' for each game, and afterwards a click out of the modal so it closes again.

I suppose it takes two minutes, or three at worst? That's at least less time than it takes to try to understand the actual locks on SteamDB, or run a bundle split on Group Buys, or decide on the wording of a forum post.

(Is a manually kept account activation log anything that https://lab.xpaw.me/license-parser.html can't do? I always figured I'd use that if I really wanted to take a peek into what I own.)

Comment has been collapsed.

I appreciate you wanting to help but it just isn't going to happen without some extra incentivization as it doesn't benefit me directly. And some bundles can be pretty large, as you probably already know. I have no personal need to check for regional locks, besides a few leftovers, on keys that won't end up as giveaways.

As for the license parser, it's just too limited and not sufficiently suited for my purposes. My log contains quite a bit more information like the source, price, payment method, type of app, as well as some additional notes.

Besides that, and having started and abandoned too many side jobs in the past already, I'm just not ready to go and dedicate time yet again to another task that I eventually will end up giving up upon as well.

the gift link notifications are the only ones able to give us an indication about which regions do receive locked keys.

Hey Lilly, I always thought Humble gift link notifications were notoriously untrustworthy, often showing information that does not correspond with any known region locks or packages on SteamDB. Is that not the case?

I always thought Humble gift link notifications were notoriously untrustworthy

They're untrustworthy in the sense that the countries list doesn't reflect the region locks that YOUR key has. Keys that can be activated worldwide also show a huge list of countries, and the buyers who receive ROW keys are tempted to think that their key is region locked because of that big list.
But in fact, that list should be read as "these countries DO receive a region lock key, or no game at all". If taken with this meaning in mind, then they are very reliable. Sure, there are also errors from time to time, but in most of the cases they are very accurate.

often showing information that does not correspond with any known region locks or packages on SteamDB

It happens quite often that the region locked package is not indexed on SteamDB, but that's usually because these packages are newly generated by publishers likely for that specific bundle. As you probably already know, Valve restricted the discovery of non-store packages a few years ago, so without a token from someone who actually owns the package, SteamDB is unable to index it.

Fanatical is a completely different story though. It's a mess and extremely unreliable.
With Fanatical you don't have the concept of "these countries DO receive a region lock key, or no game at all". For some Fanatical bundles, there's some info in the API about the region locks, but this is shown even if no one actually receives a region locked package. It's probably some sort of info that they have indexed about what kind of packages could exist, but it doesn't reflect the packages they decide to deliver in a certain bundle.
The API info is also incomplete, for example they show a region lock for Russia-only sometimes, when the package is actually for the whole RU/CIS - unknown if that means that for Russia specifically they give the RU/CIS package, and for the rest of RU/CIS countries they just give ROW keys. This never happens with Humble Bundle: if a RU/CIS package exists and they decide to deliver it in a bundle, then it's consistently allocated to all RU/CIS countries and not only to some of them, selectively chosen.

3 are in early access (Deadlink, Viscerafest and Graven) and i don't care about them, 1 don't have a professional review (The Citadel) and 2 (Forgive Me Father and Wrath Aeon of Ruin) was already bundled before and i own them. Graven have only 69%. so for me it is 8-6=2
