As you probably know we have a strict no sale policy. The game will not go on sale on Steam or any other platform. This basically means that purchasing before the 16th of April 2018 is the only way to buy the game cheaper than the increased release price.
I really respect developers like that or Yacht Club Games who value their product and the customers who supported them early instead of spitting into their faces like so many other developers (i.e. TinyBuild) do.
Guess that settles it. Thanks for the heads-up.

Forget my Steam Library. Except 3 - 4 dozen Indie gems those were doomed never to be played anyway :´(
But I think I'll have to have The Talk with Sleeping Dogs and The Witcher 3 on my PS4 :D

I cant recommend sleeping dogs enough. It has a great story, really smooth gameplay and it looks GORGEOUS at rainy days.

I'm roughly 12 - 15 hours into the game and from what I've seen so far I completely agree. Storywise I've just moved on from North Point to Central and got a fancy new apartment. I'm a sucker for GTA like games anyway and Sleeping Dogs brings a lot of fresh ideas to the table. Plus the Definitive Edition looks, as you said, gorgeous and I'm amazed about Hong Kong and it's vertical architecture and how vibrant they made the city feel. Also although I heard a lot about the Definitive Edition having way more bugs than the original I haven't encountered any so far (maybe due to playing on PS4).

I pretty much finished the main game at around 100% and i neither once encountered any bug. As you said the whole atmosphere was over the top. By the way you can get it for almost nothing on pc so i would advise you to buy it just to max the settings. It seems much more beautiful than gta v at least for me and it so optimized that even my potato could play it at constant 60 fps with vsync on. And i should mention again that i dont care at all about graphics in videogames, i will play even on the lowest settings in order to have a smooth experience.

I have a rather old PC so most games run better on console. Probably because it's easier to optimize a game for fixed hardware than for the full range of hardware available on PC.

On the plus side, this is the year of the Dog, so sorta symbolically warrants a full playthru - I know it does for me at least. tnx for reminding me.
I'm also a sucka for TPP games in general, and especially decent open world/ free-roamy actiony adventures n such.
Comment has been collapsed.
Let me preface that with the fact that I actually quite liked several games published by them that's probably the main reason why it pains me they suck so much at publishing because apparently they have a good eye which games to back.
But what really annoys me about them is that apparently they don't value their own products at all and tend to put them into Bundles just months after release thus insulting their real fans and the people who are willing to support the company. The worst example would be them giving away Lovely Planet Arcade for free on Alienware Arena just ~ 8 weeks after release.
And that whole G2A story was actually rather hypocritical because you can't put your game in 1$ Bundles and complain about resellers afterwards. I obviously understand the market for Indie games like theirs is limited and putting your game in Bundles is an attempt to reach new customers that wouldn't have bought it otherwise but how about you don't give them away for pennies in the first place rather then complaining afterswards that some people try to make a quick buck off them.

I know the feeling. I'm usually also several years behind with what I play. Guess it also helps that the video game market is so extremely oversaturated.
Comment has been collapsed.
thanks for info, not a fan of their policy, since not many people can afford those prices for games, but its up to them.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you can't afford 25$ you're in the wrong hobby honestly.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thats so wrong, if you use sites like humble bundle and fanatical propably you wont even need to spend more than 15 if you arent a huge fan of overpriced AAA games or you have enough patience.
Comment has been collapsed.
I would assume that's exactly the reason why some developers / publishers are not willing to cater to the current atmosphere of greed and entitlement that has become common under gamers. (somewhat understandably since the video game market is so oversaturated)
But I'd be willing to bet some of the people complaining about the pricing of Factorio or Shovel Knight (not necessarily here) are proud owners of a 500$ carambit or whatever that garbage is called.

Sounds legit :D I'd totally go for it. I just briefly need his knife first to confirm it's not duped. Afterwards we can trade.
Damn... the Counterstrike community is a cesspool.

That's a bold statement "greed and entitlement". Developers can charge whatever they want but to call people who aren't prepared to pay a set price for a game "greedy" and "entitled" is way over the line. While I am sure that some people are like that this isn't a matter of being greedy or entitled. Everyone has limited budgets. Even the super rich. They choose to spend money based on cost/benefit to them. That $20 could buy me 2 months of Netflix or a Guild Wars 2 expansion which will last many years.
I tend to only buy games when they are highly discounted. I don't need to play the latest and greatest games when they are released. They are just as good a few months or even years later. Does that make me entitled or greedy? I choose to spend my money where I get the most return on my investment. It's ultimately all about supply and demand. As you said, the market is over saturated. Developers are competing with each other but also with other forms of entertainment. If they charge too much then they won't get any sales (e.g. $1k). If they charge too little then they won't make very much (e.g. $1). Somewhere in between there is a price point where they maximize their sales but that price won't suit everyone. Over time, they will saturate their market. Eventually they will either lose sales or start discounting. It's up to them.
I would caution them, though. If they wait too long then they could lose out on sales because people who are interested but aren't prepare to pay the price might lose interest in the game. Kerbal Space Program is one such game for me. It was on my wishlist for a while but I am not even biting now that they are discounting it more and more. I would probably have bought it a while back if the discount had been good enough. Now, it's far less likely.
I don't know if I would be interested in Factorio because I haven't looked at it. My comment is more about your "jab".
Edit: I have the game on "Not Interested" so I probably looked at it in the past and felt it wasn't for me.

That's a bold statement "greed and entitlement".
No, not really. There's nothing wrong with not buying a game because you don't like the price. There is however a problem with the general attitude many Steam collectors have to expect everything to be given to them for free or at least 90 % off.
And if the data from Steamspy is accurate, and they sold over 1.2 million copies at a price range of 10$ (IndieGoGo campaign) and the current price of 20$, that's a lot of money for a team that size.
If some people are not willing to pay the cost to do business the lost potential revenue of those sales will probably be easily made up by the respect and goodwill for their next project of the people who bought the game and appreciate not being spit in the face by finding the game in a 1$ Bundle or the next Humble Monthly.

You statement was "the current atmosphere of greed and entitlement that has become common under gamers". You didn't say collectors, you said gamers. I am not seeing that with gamers that I know and the 1.2 million copies sold that you listed above also says otherwise.
Also, the gaming market was expected to rise to $108.9 by the end of 2017. That's up almost 8% from the year before. That means that people are spending more on games.
Comment has been collapsed.
I did. And now I'm clarifying my statement after you pointed out I made a blanket statement about gamers in general that's mostly true for Steam and SteamGifts users in particular.
I'm completely aware there are still plenty of people who buy games directly at release and pay full price. Two of my best buddies are console gamers and buy every other big title directly at release for 70€.

Well, collecting real knifes is something I can get behind :D I used to do that when I was a scout.

How ever did you manage to conflate unwillingness to spend a certain amount of money on an arbitrary product with greed?
But I'd be willing to bet...
Of course, you are. There no risk what so ever with a statement like this because it's simply impossible to falsify your claim.

It’s Saturday afternoon and I have to go shopping before stores close so I’d rather not. Nor do I intend to continue this debate at a later point. This is by the way the last time I’m going to reply regarding this matter so to everybody else who feels insulted by my opinion please just blacklist me and move on.

Back from shopping now. Indeed and my pleasure ;)
Now off to fueling my latest addiction and build some (semi-) automatic Factories :D

Is that hobby "playing games" or "buying/collecting games"? First option need game(s) and time. Time is more important than money for this hobby. If you can't spent 15 hours everyday you are in the wrong hobby honestly. I can accept 15x7 hours every week or 15x30 hours every month. Go away, play poker. Money is more important than time for it.

I know, but I don't think that it won't get a discount later on. When the game doesn't sell well enough they'll put it on sale. Not tomorrow or this year, but it will come. Afaik they only developed Factorio and at some point the market is nearly full in relation to the price of the game. So they have to aquire new customers.
Comment has been collapsed.
The gain from discounting the game is lower than the customer outrage from breaking your no-sales promise. Not gonna happen, it sells / sold enough.
Comment has been collapsed.
Playing it as we speak, love the game. If they do not want a sale then its ok by me, they made the product so its their decision.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm usually basing my purchasing decisions on a similar but less strict policy. I'm not going to pay more than the lowest price if I'm not sure that I'll ever put it high enough on my priority list to actually play the game at some point. As with anything else in my life though, this policy is disregarded on multiple occasions.

Factorio is the 2nd best game on Steam (Portal 2 is 1st) by steamdb. I've over 500 hours, 100% achieved, and can't stop playing, always coming back, even with 500+ games on my backlog. I was waiting a sale for years, gave up and bought it, totally worth the full price.

Yes. Factorio is a very dangerous game.

This game is one of my favorites and i love it. It is addicting fun and they deserve every penny. If you really want to support the devs more you should buy it on factorio.com
You will get the normal version and get a steam key. The only difference is that they don't give the 30% cut to steam.
Comment has been collapsed.
They are using the Humble widget so I guess you get a Steam key like when you buy it on the store
Comment has been collapsed.
yes, you can download the game on their website and get a steam key.
This is what is written on their website:
You get an access code for the game download right NOW. You will be entitled to ALL the game updates in the future as well. We deliver new versions every couple of months. Together with the game comes a scenario pack with three mini campaigns exploring different aspects of the game.
You can redeem a Steam key to own the game on Steam too, if you wish.

Couldn't be more off topic, but I see that I'm a brand new entry in your BL and couldn't resist the curiosity at least to try to ask the reason. No offense taken if you don't reply, no drama if you do, just curiosity in its purest form.

Even at it's most complex, you can use simple solutions to solve problems. Those solutions may be horribly inefficient but hey, as long as the job gets done :D

Apparently ITAD is not accurate in this case. See one comment above.
The original unedited post had incorrect information about the lowest price from ITAD.

If you own a Steam copy (regardless of whether you bought it from Steam store or other retail store), you can obtain the DRM free version of the game from Factorio website after you link your account on the site with your Steam account.

From FAQs
I bought the game via Steam, can I get the Factorio login for that as well?
Yes, it is possible. In game you will have the option to register an account on our webpage. You can also create a free account at factorio.com and then head to your profile/settings page where you will find directions on how to link it to your Steam account. It is strongly recommended to create the account with the same username you have on Steam already.

Well, one of my friends has bought it, so if I play with her I guess. Could be fun. But I'm way too much of a control freak to like the demo (since much is handed to you in the tutorial). Think I might like the freedom to start completely from scratch more (if that's possible?).

This is the best game I have ever backed early on. Glad I got it when it was on Indiegogo as I've had my moneys worth a hundred times over.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd actually forgotten I'd backed Minecraft, hmm now that is a tough call to make as to which I've had better value from. Probably Minecraft as I get to play that with my youngest daughter.
Wasteland 2 was also something I backed but I felt like I got burned on that, while it wasn't a terrible game it never felt like a sequel to me and now I am in the process of getting burnt on Bard's Tale 4 as well which has seemingly moved completely away from what they promised in the kickstarter. Oh well, lesson learnt, I wont back Inxile again.
Godus I avoided like the plague as I just didn't trust moly to deliver.

Godus
I feel for you. I can only remember Pillars of Eternity at the moment and I'm pretty sure I'll get my money's worth out of it when the time comes, although I've already received two additional copies as part of bundles if I remember correctly.
Edit: I notice you gave a positive review of Godus on Steam and I don't mean to belittle your opinion, it's just that I feel I dodged a bullet because I was tempted to back at one point as well.

It's complete and utter garbage, abandonware to the max. Like The Stomping Land! What I wrote I wrote in 2013, and all the way until 2015 or so they had cute progress reports filled with cute pictures of their office - http://store.steampowered.com/news/?appids=232810

From their latest annoucement:
Chart created with Lex's SG Chart Maker
If you want to support the developers, buy the game directly from their website. As far as I can see, you don't get any perks from Humble Store (discount for subscriber and cashback), but all the money goes to the developer. This is also the cheapest option for folks from EU.
If you are a Humble Monthly subscriber, not from EU, and your regional price for the game is approximately the same or more expensive than as US prices, you might want to buy the game from Humble Store for $18. This is the cheapest option available for the game for folks from first world countries.
If you own a Steam copy (regardless of whether you bought it from Steam store or other retail store), you can obtain the DRM free version of the game from Factorio website after you link your account on the site with your Steam account.
