I have a lot lot games in backlog(above 50) to play...and I never had enough time to play them.

So I will stop purchasing games till next winter and finish my "old" games before I will buy new ones.

Now let's start to flame me and my silly idea.

Yes, but this one is like most other New Year's resolutions or like quitting smoking (or so I'm told). Easier said than done!

Maybe you should set this resolution to start for the day after the Steam sales end? :)

Your idea is NOT silly.

You're right, the OP's idea isn't silly, but this idea is. Forcing yourself to complete each and every game you own is masochistic. Better to just play what you enjoy to the extent you're willing to play it.

I'm planning to go through and give some attention to the games I was too busy to really look at when I bought too, but I agree doing it in that way wouldn't be fun at all. You did buy those games to enjoy after all :P

Especially if you have to do it in a set order, that's just crazy.

I've seen this group few days ago, but this is too extreme for me. Some games are shit, some simply gets boring after a while. I expect to have fun when playing, why would i force myself to play game i don't enjoy. Do x hours of multiplayer in a dead or infested with cheaters game? No, thanks...

@op
I also plan to stop buying game after winter sale till i at least try those I already bought. Stay strong :)

Yeah, pass on playing everything in my Steam library (and then my Desura library, and my GOG library, and my Origin library...;) it'd take ages.

Of course it is masochistic! We could just use this idea as a reference and shape it up according to our gaming needs.

thanks for the link, it's a bit similar to my motivation but I will play what I want in an order I want. 20 min Dead Space 2, 30mins Bioshock... and so on :)

Important thing for me is to not buy stuff, play it 20mins and buy a new one,.. I don't want to stress myself ever again with playing games :D

I bought none on the Steam sale (although I was tempted), but I did buy a couple elsewhere. Still better than in previous sales.

I think that you should add the condition "don't buy any games except for gifting". :)

Anyway, it's not a bad idea. I reduced my game buying a lot since the summer sale, but personally I can't see myself stopping buying games completely. There will always be an "indie" bundle (in quotes because of THQ) which will offer such good value that I'll be tempted.

I guess I have slightly more than 50 games and after few weeks I won't have any time to play any of them, yet I'm still buying more.

There is no reason to buy any games on steam (or anywhere else for that matter) for less than 75% off. Eventually they all go there. If you start doing this you might play the games a little later than others but you will have 4 times the games to play and you are always ahead of the hardware curve. Meaning you never have to worry about the games not running smooth on your current computer.

Buy and Play Smart.

Been doing it this way for years.

It still doesn't help the backlog, because there are too many such sales. The OP's idea of not buying is good, and also monetarily sound. I bought games at 75% off which I haven't played and now cost less. I bought games at 75% which don't cost less but I haven't played them, so what's the point?

I say this every single sale, but I can't seem to hold myself to it. Good luck though. Maybe you'll be better at resisting the temptation of that oh-so-lovely, shiny new game. lol

For the record, I still don't think the idea's silly at all so long as you're still having fun. Lately, I've been making myself pick a new game each time I hover my cursor over something I've beaten multiple times and have been pleasantly surprised just how good some of my unplayed games really are. Also, I'm many times more likely to spend more time playing something I won/was gifted than something I paid for myself. Go figure, but it seems to be good motivation.
