I think it would be interesting if SteamGifts introduced a follower system so that you could see when some great gifters post new giveaways. This way you could see more specific giveaways that you're interested in. What do you think?

I also have a giveaway up at the moment: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/6I6cj/mount-blade-private-giveaway

EDIT: There are some very interesting points in the comments.

That's what the wishlist is for.

What about people who don't wishlist everything they see that is vaguely interesting?

specific giveaways that you're interested in

Those seem perfect candidates for adding to your wishlist, no?

It depends. I can be interested enough in a game to join a giveaway, but not to add to wishlist. My wishlist is things which I want, not things which I'm 'interested' in.

Wouldn't anyone want things they are interested in?

There is a difference between being interested in and wanting or liking. e.g. I think Hitler and Mao are very interesting people, but I don't like them.

Actually, not really. I keep my wishlist pretty small, but I'm interested in a lot more games than the ones you can see in my wishlist, because my wishlist only has games that I'm sure I want to buy.

You can block everything you are not interested in and then your main giveaways page will be pretty clean. Mine is currently only 3 pages because I have over 6400 games blocked.

Oh wow. I didn't actually know that. Thanks for letting me know.

It takes a long time to look through all the games to make sure I really don't want them, but it now saves a lot of time because I don't have to sift through the same games that I don't want over and over again.

+1 for shovelware developers and publishers. Like all those "Simulator" games (Airport Fire Department, etc).

I can definitely try though. I wish people would just stop buying bad games.

you mean like another category? all / wishlist / recommended / group / new / followed

i honestly don't see much point really, you may like something that made you follow them, then not like the next 30 giveaways they make. like tzaar said, wishlist would work better for games you want.

That may also mean some bots add generous people to their list and spam their entries there ;)

That is a good point.

I don't really see the point, other than as a source of abuse

Maybe it's a good idea for forum threads (some people reliably post great threads) and maybe for comments too (although that would result in stalking).

Definitely not for giveaways. As others have said, you already have Wishlist to follow games you are interested in. If a game is not good enough to get on your wishlist, it would be more reasonable to leave it to those who want it more.

There is a script I use to sort the discussions here by the date they were created instead of the last message posted, it's called Steamgifts discussion enhanced. It has an option to stalk people, but it is only for highlighting threads they created, not individual comments. I don't have any reason to use that feature, but it's there if someone wants it.

Strongly disagree. The less we encourage the cult of personality already happening, the better.

Let me tell you a story. Once a song was linked in a forum. Someone clicked that link and went "aaaaawww" the moment he saw the title and started rhythmically moving his body to the song. Then something happened. His eyes happened upon the date the video was uploaded. And then the sudden realisation happened. 6 years ago!!! That song is already 6 years old!! We're old! We're relics! Death will be upon us before we realise! (;-;)

How's this for an existential crisis?
This one is older as well (2001), but pretty good.

I don't see much use of that feature, you could just look up the game you are interested in. I don't think it matters much who is giving it away except for the blacklist/whitelist.
