Hi,

I have read solution for this question in some thread here on this forum. But I can not find it any more. Solution includes something with FireFox inspector or webpage sourscode or someting like that.

So if you have key (which you have won at indiegala gameplay-giveaway) and do not know for which game it is because it is already in your library. How do you find the game the key is for?

Thanks

This method doesn't work if the key is region locked, either with SteamDB addon or Inspector. Does anyone know a way around this?

Alternatively, use the SteamDB browser add-on on the same page, it will do the work for you, read through the inspector and display the information without any additional steps.

Seems you already have the answer.
Anyway, an easier method, but it only works if you don't have the game installed, is to try activating the key form the steam client. The client automatically pops up the installation wizard with the game name if the game is not already installed.

...but you don't want to activate something you don't want.

The OP already owns the game. They just don't know what game it is.

Yes, it only works in the given situation, but it's not a recommended way to find out what a key is, that is what I was getting at.

Yes I know. Luckily the OP was in the given situation.

Thanks everyone. For text referance if picture goes offline. In FireFox on Mac (should be similar on Windows or Linux) :

  • load "store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey" web page
  • on page enter Product Code, select "agree to the terms" but do not click Continue button yet
  • right click on page and select "Inspect Element"
  • go to "Network" tab
  • on page click Continue
  • on "Network" tab in list select line with POST ajaxregisterkey/
  • select "Response" tab
  • scroll to line_items, 0, and then to line_item_description
  • there is the name of the game

I believe that this gives you the name and ID of the Steam "package" not necessarily the name of the the game. But usually the package name has the game name in it. If it doesn't you can look up the package name (or ID) on steamdb.info and click on the "Apps" tab to see what apps are included in that package (which will almost always include an app named after the name of the game unless the name of the game had changed at some point and they never updated the app name).

I am basically use the steamdb addon for browser, but you can activate key in steam client, where you can see that this game is "to be installed after activation"
